So I read on Linda Ikeji’s Blog that Nigerian Actress, Tonto Dikeh recently attempted suicide. Tonto was said to have posted this on her Instagram page:

with the following words…

“WokeUp happy n decided to share diz***I’ve bin here b4 n I can tell u we stronger Dan our problemz/painz/Etc**That day I realized SUICIDE iz for COWARDZ**if u’ve gat no1 to talk to like mii I suggezt u strt wit GOD,diz shitzzzz crazy(world) but it iz Ourz dnt leave it in SHAME,ILOVEU”—Tonto Dikeh

Toward the end of her post, Linda wrote and I quote:

“Tonto dear, you’re a beautiful strong woman who deserves to live a long, fulfilling life. Never let what people say about you push you over the edge, because when you really think about it, nobody holy pass. And remember, the haters can scream so loud sometimes that you miss the voices of the people who love you. Hear their voices and know you’re loved. Keep your head up, girl. Linda

*Note* – Please keep the comments on this post clean and respectful. And other bloggers, please don’t get messy with this story. It’s serious! Thanks”

You see, Linda is an amazing blogger but sometimes her take on celebrity gossip lack depth and wisdom. I totally agree with her about not getting messy with this story because it’s serious but I think her “Never let what people say about you push you over the edge,…” part is quite lame; especially because…for us who’ve been keeping track of Tonto Dikeh’s escapades on the social and mainstream media,…we know Tonto is the CHAMPION of saying things that could push people over the edge!

In fact, I had to screen grab a comment on Linda’s blog post which to me was the best analysis on the story. Please read…

I would like to address the rest of this post to Tonto. I said a prayer for her just before writing this post, and I know God will guide my fingers to type the right words to help her.

Tonto, you are a child of LIGHT and Light was destined to shine through you. You wouldn’t have been able to take your own life no matter how hard you tried because you’ve only just scratched the surface of your purpose here on earth and you have a lot more to give if you just FOCUS.

I know you find yourself in a dark place, now and then and ever since your mom left you feel alone and angry but she never really left you in the real sense because her angelic spirit watches over you, EVERYDAY.

Stop surrounding yourself with negativity. Humans are also spirit beings. When you generate negative energy…more so as a child of Light (God)…it is not healthy for the spirit in the long run.

I know this isn’t the time to say, ntoi! or ‘I told you so,’ but from your tweet fight with Yvonne Nelson when you said her Veejayjay was wider than a canal, that’s why Iyanya dumped her…when you know she was seriously hurting…to your drunken stint in London when you flashed Londoners your “unshaven” armpits; to your posting that ‘I love POKO’ marijuana Instagram photo; to the one that finally took the cake…saying your fellow Nollywood actresses marry poorly and cussing out Mercy Johnson. Girl, you took your bad girl persona way too far!

Enough of the tough love. I’ve been suicidal too. It stemmed from depression which got so bad that I’d brush my teeth and take my bath twice in one morning because I forgot I had done so the first time. I remember it felt like a thick veil was pulled off me when my younger sister who lives in the U.S prayed fervently for me on the phone. I received strength to live a happy woman. So I say this to you, Tonto…

You have not received the spirit of fear but the Spirit of boldness and a SOUND MIND to make the right choices that will shine your light to bless mankind. You’ve been given the strength to do ALL things through Christ, therefore you shall not die but live to declare His marvellous works through you.

It is God who has given you the ability to make wealth. Never forget that; and live your life by being bold yet clothed with the cloak of humility.

You are such a beautiful girl. I may not be a fan of your music…yet….but I cannot dispute the fact that you are an amazing actress with fantastic talent.

Go to Ibinabo Fiberesima. Arrange a meeting with your core colleagues in the movie industry and apologise to them. It’s hard when you constantly get snubbed by your colleagues because they perceive that your loyalty to them has been compromised. Let them help set up a meeting with Mercy Johnson and if Yvonne Nelson cannot make it to Nigeria, hook up with her on Skype or via phone call. Squash the beef with them. Iyanya is a great artiste but as a lover he’s an a***hole and not worth any pretty girl like you or Yvonne fighting over.

In my opinion, any guy who makes a freestyle video dissing his ex and saying it was a joke or saying a lady needs to be dusted off is a major loser and needs to be thrown to the curb, no long thing! So make up with Yvonne already and maybe you both can make a good payback Youtube video about Iyanya. Yvonne loves to Keek a lot, I know she’ll be up to it. *wink*

Whether you like it or not, Tonto…you are a role model. My 13 year old daughter used to say she wanted to be an actress like Tonto Dikeh…she looks a lot like you, physically…but now she’s changed her mind. You needed to have seen the disappointment on her face when she watched your ‘London!!!’ video, months back. It was her turn to pray this morning during family devotion. She had read your suicide story so she prayed for you! Then my heart broke…

Whether you believe it or not, people love you and wish the best for you. You can still be the diva you are, without the extra drama. There’s so much negativity in the country right now, stemming from religious and tribal sentiments. We could do well with a lot of love.

Finally, be strong. Keep your head up. Make the right choices. And seriously, no one’s judging you except they are ‘imbecilically’ stupid. I just want you to be the best human you could possibly be. And remember, I shall be cheering you on. And someone will also be smiling down with pride from Heaven. *wink*

BE STRONG. BIG HUG,

Peace. xxx
