Hello Pweebers. Some of us have been going down memory lane to recount the events of year 2013. We’ve analysed who brought in their ‘A’ game when it came to fashion and style; who were the most googled Nigerian celebrities of 2013 and now I’m selecting some of the most shocking utterances made by Nigerian celebs in 2013.

You know that awkward moment when you think your talking sense but instead what comes out of your mouth is nothing but an opata yarn. So in no particular order, let me share with you my top 10 statements in 2013 which to me were most cringe-worthy, downright controversial and hilariously rib-cracking. Enjoy!

1. What is the website of NSCDC?…“I cannot categorically tell you one now… the one we are going to make use of is going to be made known by my oga at the top…”

Obafaiye Shem

In March 2013, the then Lagos State Commandant of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Obafaiye Shem was a guest on Channels Television’s breakfast programme, Sunrise Daily.

The topic of a fake NSCDC website opened by impostors to defraud unsuspecting job seekers came up. Mr. Shem was asked by Channels TV presenters give the official web address of his organization to help stop the public from being defrauded. Mr Shem said:

“I cannot categorically tell you one now…the one we are going to make use of is going to be made known by my oga at the top.”

Probed further to name the organisation’s website, the commandant said the address is: www.nscdc. “that’s all!”

The video which was posted on YouTube went viral and the phrase “Oga at the top” became an instant meme. The phrase was printed on tee shirts which instantly sold out. It even had an audio mix with Nigerians all over the world spinning off their own ‘Oga at the top’ videos.

2. “Come, sit on my laps and I will show you a level of grace you do not understand.”

A lady called  Ese Walters claimed that Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo of the Commonwealth Of Zion Assembly (COZA) used this cringe worthy line on her in a viral article she posted on her blog in August, 2013.

Ese who was relatively unknown before her scandalous confession, wrote a tell all blogpost which she has since deleted where she gave very elaborate details about her alleged affair with the pastor.

Pastor Fatoyinbo is yet to deny Walters’ claims. To read Ese’s full confession, click HERE.

3. “I was not a tribalist when I had a long-standing and intimate relationship with Miss Bianca Onoh, an Igbo lady…”

In September 2013, Femi Fani Kayode, a former aviation minister made this careless statement when in his bid to defend himself against tribalism attacks,  he bizarrely claimed to have had a sizzling relationship with Bianca Ojukwu, widow of the late Biafran warlord, Emeka Ojukwu.

FFK was later forced to recant this statement after Bianca threatened to sue him for every penny.

4. “Where are my shoes, Mennnn?!”

Still in September 2013, Nollywood actor, Jim Iyke slipped quietly into Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN)..Pastor’s T.B. Joshua‘s church…for spiritual deliverance.

But his secret visit to the church soon transformed into a full blown social media gossip after photos and a video of his deliverance was posted on the church’s Facebook page. The photos and video showed Jim sprawled on the floor looking dishevelled and exhausted. At the end of the video, we saw Jim get up and yell: “Where are my shoes, Mennnn?!”

5. “As the president, I don’t know him (Abu Shekau) and don’t know if he is dead or alive; you journalists will know more than us. You are the ones who talk to Boko Haram.”

Nigerian president, Goodluck Ebele Jonathan spewed these words in a presidential media chat, when asked about  Boko Haram’s point man, Abu Shekau.

Mr President proved that every Nigerian is truly in trouble, in that awkward moment when we realized our dear president has no clue whatsoever on how to deliver us from the terrorism of Boko Haram.

6. “…Do you expect me to sound like a savage?”

OAP Toke Makinwa said this in an interview when asked how she managed to acquire a British accent after just one year of living in the UK. To read the full story, click HERE.

7. “Broke people always think they have an opinion”

When a fan decided to correct a grammatical error Wizkid made on Twitter, the Nigerian artiste gave him th acidic reply above.

8. “Nollywood brides marry horribly.”

Nollywood actress, Tonto Dikeh took a swipe at fellow actress, Mercy Johnson, out of the blue and for no reason. She criticized actresses who went back to work 2 months after giving birth. Her statement earned her a generous dose of public tongue lash.

9. “We do not pray for accidents but it is inevitable… we do everything to ensure that we do not have accidents, but it is an act of God.”

Stella Oduah, Aviation minister made this totally daft statement when addressing journalists 3 days after 16 people lost their lives in the Associated airlines crash that was ferrying the remains of Olusegun Agagu, a former aviation minister.

It turned out, God had nothing to do with this particular crash as the Accident Investigation Bureau revealed that a malfunctioning engine and a wrong call by the pilot was most likely the cause.

10. “You are a widow… go and die!!”

The governor of Edo state, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole became this year’s face of insensitivity when he was captured in a video, yelling at a widow whose good were confiscated for trading during the state’s sanitation exercise.

Oshiomhole told the woman to ‘go and die’ but after much public outcry, he invited the widow to tea where he empowered her with a N2million capital to expand her business and a government employment.
