Carte Blanche is putting their own twist on comfort food for the fall. The new menu gives a nod to the thai/all over the world influences that often characterize Carte Blanche food, but introduces them to classic seasonal fall flavors. For example, the ‘Important Helmet for Outer Space’ is a different take on a traditional thai sweet pork bowl, featuring spiced red wine and hoisin braised pork (or crispy glazed tofu as a vegetarian option) served over rice, a sauté of miso-buttered mushrooms, kale, brussel sprouts, and delicata squash, and a ginger-apple-lemongrass slaw.

Also on the menu, and an all time favorite of regulars, is the ‘Je M’appelle Joshua’, a mac and cheese dish consisting of shell pasta in cart-made Sake and Ethiopian Berbere cheese sauce (made with a blend of five different cheeses), topped with a sauté that includes roasted tomatoes, brussel sprouts, leeks, broccoli, and kosher franks, then garnished with arugula, crispy fried shallots, breadcrumbs, and drizzled with balsamic reduction.

The third and final entree, the ‘Pipe Down, Ding-a-Ling!’ is all new to the carte. Wild caught PNW sole is pan-fried in blackening spices, then served over a sauté of kale, sweet peppers, and roasted squash, with cart-made homefries and an apple-chili-lime slaw on the side.

Though Carte Blanche makes it a point to rotates dishes in and out often (hence the name ‘Carte Blanche’), this fall menu will likely remain in its current incarnation until the second week of November. A brief history: Carte Blanche owner/head chef Jessie Aron is a young culinary school graduate who spent time at Pok Pok and The Baowry before deciding to create her own menus. Carte Blanche is embarking on its second winter, thanks to the support of its loyal customers and their appreciation for adventurous and delicious eating experiences.
