Refs watch illegal hits

With concussions at every level of football dominating public discussion, high school officials seem to be clamping down on illegal hits.

In the Middletown-St. Helena showdown last Friday, each team was assessed a 15-yard penalty for a helmet-to-helmet hit. St. Helena’s penalty came late in the game. It was on sophomore defensive back Javier Otero, and officials ruled it was a flagrant infraction, meaning Otero was ejected from the game.

Klee headed to West Point

P.J. Klee will make his debut this season with the Cardinal Newman wrestling team, but he may already have had the biggest day of his senior year.

Klee, who spent most of his high school years at Blair Academy, a boarding school in New Jersey, on Friday signed his Offer of Admission to the U.S. Military Academy in West Point, N.Y.

Klee won two national championships and was a three-time high school All-American at Blair. He will join the Army wrestling team.

He’ll report for basic training on June 30.
