A gaming laptop tends to have high-end processors, graphics cards, cooling systems, and displays which often result in its high price, but with the development of hardware, the current mid-range and high-end graphics are good enough for us to play some mid-range games smoothly. If you do not pursue the ultimate gaming experience, these mid-range graphics cards can even allow you to play some demanding games smoothly at lower resolutions. $1000 is a watershed of the gaming laptop, most of which, with midrange graphics, are distributed around this price. What follows is a recommendation of several popular gaming laptops within the $1,000 range and with a high performance-cost ratio.

Currently, the NVIDIA remains the mainstream in the market share of mid-range and high-end graphics cards. The AMD graphics mainly focus on the low-end laptops in the market share (most of them are integrated graphics). So, if you want to buy a laptop around $500, the AMD graphics card is your first choice. The APU platform has a very good gaming performance, and secondly, there are virtually no laptops equipped with the NVIDIA graphics within this price range.

Recently, the NVIDIA released its new graphics card, the GTX 960M and the 950M of the “9” series. Quickly, the gaming laptop equipped with the 960M was launched, which makes us feel delighted and a little disappointed as well because the 960M graphics is the 860M in essence and is identical to the 860M in architecture, Memory interface, Maximum Bandwidth, shaders, and TDP. It is only improved to some degree in basic frequency, and its overall performance is only 6% -8% or so higher than the 860M. Therefore, it is recommended that when you choose a laptop you should not be misled by the 960M graphics and ignore the 860M which is similar to the 960M in performance. Currently the graphics equipped with the 860M has a higher performance-cost ratio.

* The GTX 965M and GTX 960M have a very small gap in performance. I suggest you add some budget to choose a laptop with 970M GPU or GTX 1050. (please read:  GeForce GTX 980M vs 970M vs 965M vs 960M vs 860M Specs and Benchmark Comparison). The list above I have recommended MSI GE62 Pro which have a GTX970M graphics card, ASUS ROG Strix GL553VD and MSI GL62M 7RD-056 features GTX 1050 graphics card,

Best Gaming Laptop under 1000:

ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH71

ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH71 is the newly released gaming laptop by asus, The G552 is part of Asus’ gamer-dedicated ROG series. Unlike the 17.3″ version features GTX980M which is for the more-demanding gamer, this 15.6″ version is more about allround performance. It has an i7 processor, along with a latest-generation Nvidia GeForce graphics card gtx 960M

The look of the G552 is a mix of red and black components. The lid is completely made of brushed aluminum, while the interior is made from a single piece of metal. The bottom has been formed in plastic. All of these components are black in color. The metallic parts tends to show finger marks and smudges very easily, making it a pain to keep the unit clean.

There are a few details that have been sprinkled in red, decorating the case. One of these areas is the chamfered edge, which is around the interior of the laptop. Republic of Gamers has been engraved on the top of the keyboard and on the fins of the cooling system; this can be seen to the exhaust grille located on the left side. The WASD keys are bordered in red, and they have also added a backlit ROG logo on the lid. It will not bother anyone near you, even if you’re in a dim room, as it is not very bright.

The GL552VW-DH71 is equipped with a Matte IPS FHD display, which has great color reproduction and viewing angle compared with the TN Display, but it has more delays, not suitable for gaming. In addition, the ROG series also has a version equipped with TN screen, check it out here on Amazon:

Performance:

The CPU of the ASUS GL551JW-DS71 has upgraded to i7-6700HQ. In its configuration, the GTX960M seems to perform quite well. Through the use of the manufacturer’s GPU Boost technology, the maximum clock speed of the GPU is now advanced to 1097 Mhz. As stated above, although the 960M is a replacement product, it is essentially the same product as the 860M, with the performance improved only around 8%.

Given the price range of this laptop, the performance of the graphics card is reasonable. When playing games, such as Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Metro: Last Light, Battlefield 4, and Far Cry, the fps runs at an average speed of 30 fps, even with the detail graphics set to their maximum. For titles that are more demanding, such as Crysis 3, Dragon Age: Inquisition and Hitman Absolution, the frame rate still remains consistent in Full HD as long as you lower the details rendered by the graphics. There is no need to compromise on graphic detail for less demanding titles, such as F1 2014, Tomb Raider, FIFA 15, Dota 2, The Sims 4, and GRID Autosport . (>50 fps @Ultra).

Reason for recommending:

Strictly speaking, the price of the ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH71 is slightly higher than $ 1,000, because of its 960M graphics and strong overall performance, as well as a good reputation that ROG series has always had, I have to recommend it, it is worth getting with a slightly increased budget.

* For those wanting to play at a competitive level and who favor FPS or racing games, the screen use TN panel is best. Those wanting a more impressive and immersive experience may want an IPS (or similar variant, such as PLS), especially if working on artistic endeavors.

Acer Aspire V15 Nitro Black Edition VN7-592G-71ZL

Right in the middle, low-end market you will find the Acer gaming laptop. Currently, the Acer V15 Nitro is considered to be one of the best gaming laptops available. For gamers, this laptop is not only powerful but, because of the size, also handy.

The casing is only 24mm (~0.95 inches), but Acer has managed to install extremely powerful hardware into this relatively slim laptop. The underside of the unit tapers off, giving the laptop the appearance of being even thinner. The entire case of the unit is made from a black matte plastic, and the unit’s upper portion has a light rubber coating. There is a vertical line texturing on the back of the lid. The look is completed with a black matte, soft touch palm rest. In terms of design, all these features make this laptop one of our favorites.

There is an efficient keyboard, which has a pleasant feel, a high-contrast IPS screen, which is very bright, speakers, which are above average; and besides that, it looks good. Additionally, there is an M.2 port allowing you to use another M.2 storage device if needed.

Unfortunately, the touchpad is not up to the same standards as the keyboard. Often you are not able to control the accuracy of the cursor. We feel it is unacceptable when a mouse cursor continually skips.

It would also have been beneficial if they had included a couple of small maintenance hatches, so that you could directly access the hard drives. This small feature would have allowed for quick replacement to a higher capacity hard drive, if desired.

Perfermance:

The GeForce GTX 960M with 4GB VRAM graphics card, along with the high-performance Core i7 processor, gives you plenty of power, enabling you to play virtually every current game, on this laptop. Temperature and noise are all within acceptable limits.

It is noteworthy that the GTX 960M graphics of the Acer 592G-71ZL has a 4GB DDR5 VRAM, you could not find the second one like it around  $ 1,000, its 4GB VRAM will have better performance when running games which need more Video ram.

Like Asus the Acer 592G-71ZL is also equipped with 1TB HDD, the difference being that its speed is only 5400RPM, while the speed of ASUS hard disk is 7200RPM.

We Like:

Poor touchpadReason for recommending:

It’s similar to the ASUS ROG GL552VW-DH71 in performance, although it is equipped with a IPS display, its price is nearly $50 cheaper, with very high performance-cost ratio, the hard disk is not so good as that of ASUS in performance, but using the money saved to purchase SSD will greatly improve the overall performance.

Lenovo Y700,

The Lenovo Y700 is the gaming laptop which I have recommended most around $ 1,000, In the Y700, you will find a 2.6GHz Intel Core i7-6700HQ quad-core processor, a GTX 960M with 4GB VRAM, and 8GB of RAM. There is also has the version features SSD and more lager RAM, but you should pay more money.  More information on Amazon

For a 15-inch gaming system, the Y700 is very slim. It weighs in at just 5.72 pounds and measures 0.9 high, 15.2 wide, and 10.91 inches deep. This slimmer design has been accomplished by removing the optical drive, which naturally reduces the overall thickness. There is a distinctive crosshatch design of the brushed aluminum lid and underside of the laptop. The black case has red accents, which highlight the JBL stereo speakers along with the integrated subwoofer.

It just has the 1TB Hard Drive. thanks for its  M.2 slot,  it makes the Y700 easy to add a M.2 SSD in the future. (If you don’t know what that is, just search amazon for M.2 SSD and you’ll see what they are.)

One of the big advantages of the Y700, are the speakers, which are the best 2.1 built-in laptop speakers available. Even though they are no match for headphones or desktop speakers, you are certainly going to enjoy their sound when listening to music or gaming.

Reason for recommending:
Although the Intel i7-6700HQ + GTX 960M is not so good as high-end gaming laptop that features GTX975M even GTX980M GPU, it is powerful enough to run smoothly the current mainstream mid-range and high-end games at middle or high settings, together with its excellent JBL speakers, it can bring great entertainment experience for us.

Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK (High Cost Performance)

If you are looking for a high quality, best selling laptop, look no further than the Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK. This 15.6 inch laptop has received excellent reviews for its quality, full sized keyboard, Full HD Screen and its many state-of-the-art specifications.

This Dell’s hardware is 6th generation Intel Core i5-6300HQ processor. This is a quad core CPU with 6mb cache which guarantees high performance while using less power. That comes down to better output and longer lasting (10 hr.) battery life. With a screen resolution of 1920 x 1080, this machine is very well suited for games that are mid to high range.

Another reason you should check out the Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK, it comes with a single channel 8GB memory that can be upgraded to 16GB. This memory will give you more than you will need for most games or other applications such as Photoshop, Illustrator and so many more.

Although its storage is limited, the 256GB storage is lightning fast! Should you need more storage, you can easily store files on a variety of online cloud services and don’t overlook the SSD installed on the M.2 slot. Also, keep in mind there should be plenty of free space and connection for a regular 2.5 SATA hard drive.

Probably the greatest feature of this laptop is its video card! Its high performance, dedicated NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M 4GB of GDDR5 graphics card. Combined with a powerful, newly launched processor with video card, you will have no problems playing most games; Fifa 15/16, GTA V and Gear Solid V. More demanding games such as Far Cry 4 or The Witcher 3 may require setting the graphics to medium in order to preserve playable frame rates. For it’s mid-range price, it’s worth it, unless you are into only high-end games (as mentioned above).

On the downside, it lacks an optical drive and there seems to be an overkill in its plastic designing, some minor screen bleeding and only offers 8GB of RAM but, again, you can be upgraded to 16GB.

Is It Worth The Price:

At it’s current price around 800 dollars, it’s worth the price. Were it to cost $1,100 or more, I’d look elsewhere. There is very little about this laptop not to love! From its excellent graphics card to it’s full HD Screen (1920 x 1080 ) and amazing 10 hour battery, it’s a darn good machine at a darn good price.

Also Note: If you are a graphic designer but do not want to spend a king’s ransom on a laptop then this should be on the top of your list.

Whether you are a gamer or want a laptop for work or graphics, I would not overlook this great laptop. You can’t go wrong with buying the Dell Inspiron i7559-763BLK!
