You may or may not use Reddit in your daily life to keep up on other news, but the largest multi topic in the world is teeming with info you might want to know about. While a lot of the posts can be promotional or simple questions, it’s a great space to ask questions and stay up to date on the underbelly of SEO.

Link Building Strategies

Link Detective

If you are attempting to check out some competitor backlinks or performing an analysis to find more opportunities on your own site, you’ll want to be able to classify what you’re looking at fairly quickly. Link Detective allows you to sign up for a free account and check out what the backlinks to a site physically look like. You can see a nice pie chart break out of things like Dead links (which you can work to reclaim), Banner Ads, In Text, and Sidebar links as well as a list of each of them.

Check My Links

If you’re trying to analyze a website for broken links, look for no easier a tool than Check My Links. It is a simple Chrome plugin that activates with one click of a button and will check every link on the page for things such as 404, 301 and 302 issues. They do not check plugin activated links (such as intext advertisements), Adsense links and Nofollow links so you may need an additional tool or manually test these links if you encounter them.

Robin Gupta Bulk Domain Authority Checker

If you haven’t got time to download a new program in order to quickly check Domain Authority, IP Address, Alexa Rank or Page Rank, this site can save you. All you have to do is upload a list of sites with a line break in between and let the tool do its magic.

Moz’s Open Site Explorer

Finding a site’s backlinks is not difficult with Open Site Explorer. One of the best known and talked about resources in the industry, OSE will pull backlinks of any website that is entered into the box. You can only run three searches per day if you are not a paid Moz subscriber however, so use them wisely!

Majestic SEO Site Explorer

Similar to OSE, Majestic will show you backlinks to any site you enter into the command box. This one isn’t free however, but might be a good substitution for anyone looking to only purchase a backlink explorer and not needing the whole Moz Suite.

Fresh Web Explorer

If you are looking for branded mentions to add links to, Moz has heard your cries of frustration! Fresh Web Explorer will show you any mention of a brand or keyword phrase that has occurred within a selected time frame.

Google Alerts

Let the fresh content come to you! If you are working with the same client or keyword phrase month after month, consider setting up a Google Alert to be automatically emailed every time there is a new mention of it online. One of our favorites here is to use a specific industry keyword in addition to the word “blog” so that each time it is mentioned on a blog we are notified. This is really only for the brave of heart or those who are confident in their email sorting abilities, as a really popular name or keyword mention can easily take over your inbox if your settings aren’t tweaked just right.

SEMRush

If you are interested in seeing which keywords your site or a competitor’s site are ranking for, consider making use of this tool. While the free version is somewhat limited, it still can showcase some important data such as traffic patterns, country of origin for traffic and organic keywords that the site is ranking for.

Bing

We live and breathe results in Google, but using Bing every so often as type of diversification can sometimes yield opportunities that may have gone otherwise unnoticed.

With Mail Tester you can see if the e-mail is valid before trying all different combinations – which will save some time and effort in the end. It does take a minute to ping the server, so try to be patient while it works its magic.
