Dogs come in so many different shapes, sizes, and colors, but all have one thing in common. Dogs are awesome! When raised with love, understanding, and respect, dogs truly are humans’ best friends. Your dog will love you, unconditionally, from the moment he becomes a member of your family, until he draws his last breath. Dogs don’t care about where we work, how much money we make, or what we look like.
Humans have a lot to learn from our furry counterparts – about loving unconditionally, and looking past stereotypes to view each living thing as an individual. Dogs, like humans, will shape their behaviors based on factors such as their environment, how they were raised/trained, and how they have been treated in the past. No living thing should be discriminated against based on stereotypes, or how it looks.

Anyone who visits my blog regularly is probably aware of the fact that I personally do not own a pit bull. I believe it’s important to show that it’s not only pit bull owners themselves who love and respect this noble breed. I think that it can sometimes be all too easy to ignore discrimination when the negative stereotypes don’t directly impact you.
But then where does the discrimination end? Pit bulls are dogs – Just like my Papillon. The majority of pit bulls are owned by loving, caring owners. Owners who make sure to care for, train, and contain their dogs properly. BSL (breed specific legislation) based on negative stereotypes does way more harm than good. It is not effective in reducing dog bite statistics.
Instead of focusing on ineffective BSL, we should work towards promoting responsible dog ownership. It doesn’t matter what type of dog you own, each and every one deserves to be raised and treated with respect. Enforcing non-discriminatory responsible pet ownership laws will make for both happier, healthier dogs, as well as safer communities.
