If you haven’t made any plans for the coming weekend, other than watching the London Marathon (read our recent blog post here about the race this weekend) then look no further. If you are looking for something to do this weekend in and around Kensington there are a plethora of different things to do. Below we have compiled a list of some cultural things to do in central London before or after popping in for a cocktail or glass of wine in our Pavilion bar.

Music: ‘ The Shirt Tail Stompers’ at the Royal Albert Hall

Saturday 25th April sees one of London’s top vintage jazz bands, The Shirt Tail Stompers, take to the Royal Albert Hall’s restaurant space, Verdi, to perform a mixture of blues, swing and jazz. You can also opt for a tour of the magnificent Royal Albert Hall, a truly unique experience and perfect with the overcast weather expected this weekend. Have a drink at the bar at Pavilion before or after your tour and sample some of our innovative signature cocktails at our pewter bar at Kensington Pavilion. Theatre: Roald Dahl’s ‘The Twits’ at the Royal Court Theatre

If you cannot face taking the family all the way to Shaftesbury Avenue to see West End shows, then this may be just the ticket for you especially if you live around Kensington and Chelsea.

At the time of print there are still some last minute tickets available for this family show currently showing at the Royal Court Theatre in nearby Sloane Square just a short drive or 20 min walk from Pavilion. Starring John Watkins (W1A, Trollied, Our Zoo) and Monica Dolan (W1A, The Casual Vacancy, Pride) as Mr and Mrs Twit this is a fantastic show for the whole family. For those unfamiliar with the story, Mr and Mrs Twit are not very nice people who are relentlessly mean to each other, using hilarious practical jokes to torment the other. This is until the animals they are supposed to be looking after rebel against them for their freedom.(www.royalcourttheatre.com)

“Enda Walsh’s adaptation is faithful to the anarchic spirit of Dahl’s original. It’s dark and strange, sometimes cruel and often very silly” – Henry Hitchings, The Evening Standard

The show is running until 31st May and tickets are selling fast so book now to avoid disappointment.

Film: ‘The Falling’

If you are in the mood for a movie night this weekend, we recommend director Carol Morley’s latest venture, “The Falling” which is released nationwide this weekend and showing in Kensington and Chelsea.

The story tracks the course of a mass psychological illness amongst a group of girls in a strict English school in 1969. It follows primarily the story of two friends, the innocent but damaged Lydia (Maisie Willaims, Game of Thrones) and the more experienced Abbie (Florence Pugh) who are caught up in a tragic incident at their school.

Her performance is making an overnight sensation of Pugh, and Williams’ background in Game of Thrones means that the film is well carried by the young actors. Maxine Peak (The Village, Silk) also stars as Lydia’s mother, Eileen, whose own state of mind becomes increasingly disquieted throughout.

Described as a visually stimulating mystery drama and a coming of age film, The Falling makes for a great movie night with a date or a group of friends. Why not invite your fellow Pavilion members to grab a bite to eat in the Pavilion restaurant and after head to one of the nearby cinemas. There is an Odeon cinema on Kensington High Street within walking distance from Pavilion. (www.odeon.co.uk/cinemas/kensington/99/)

If you are looking for a more intimate location, the local Picturehouse Cinema located in nearby Notting Hill is the perfect venue. (www.picturehouses.com/cinema/Gate_Picturehouse) You can also watch ‘The Falling’ at the Chelsea Curzon Cinema on King’s Road. (www.curzoncinemas.co.uk/chelsea)
