It’s time to give parsley a second look… it’s extremely healthy!
History – Parsley grows all over the world in moderate climates and it’s easy to grow. In Europe, Asia, the US, South America and other areas. Parsley has been used as an herb for more than 2,000 years for healing. It’s only in the last 200 to 300 years that parsley has been used as food. There is flat leaf and curly parsley… but for the most part they are about the same.
Parsley is Extremely Healthy
Most people see parsley on their plate at restaurants as a garnish… and it ends up going in the trash. But parsley could be the healthiest food on your plate.
Cancer – Parsley contains myristicin which is a powerful anti-tumor agent that inhibits the growth of tumors and thus can stop cancer. It also negates the cancer causing agents that are formed by grilling meat… so remember to eat your parsley. Parsley also contains eugenol, limonene, and alpha-thujene which all help to prevent cancer.
Beta-Carotene – Parsley is full of beta-carotene which helps to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer… plus it can also help with asthma and arthritis.
Boost Your Immune System – Parsley is full of great antioxidants, having more antioxidants than oranges… It will kick up your immune system and keep your healthy!
Antioxidants – Parsley also contains large amounts of Vitamins C and A, both of which help to prevent damage to your DNA via free radicals and slow the ageing process. Plus they both help to prevent diabetes, cancer, asthma, and cardiovascular disease. Parsley also contains apiin, apigenin, apiin, luteolin, rutin, and crisoeriol which are powerful polyphenal compounds like that found in green tea.
Arthritis – Parsley which is high in Vitamin C can help to prevent different types of arthritis. Studies show that those who eat a diet with lots of Vitamin C seem to never come down with certain types of arthritis. So keep eating that little bit of green on your plate.
Chlorophyll – Parsley is rich in chlorophyll which is a powerful healing agent for vitality and disease prevention.
Urinary Tract Infections – Drinking parley juice is highly recommended at the first onset of UT infections, just like cranberry juice. But unlike cranberries parsley is also alkaline and helps to prevent inflammation.
Regulate Monthly Periods – Parsley contains apiole which helps to provide estrogen which regulates monthly periods.
B-Vitamins – Parsley also has B-Vitamins such as folic acid that helps to prevent birth defects, give us vital energy, and protect against cervical and colon cancer. At the same time lowering homocysteine levels which is a marker that shows how much inflammation we have going on in our body… thus helping to prevent cardiovascular disease, strokes, and cancer.
Vitamin K – Parsley contains a large amount of Vitamin K that helps to prevent unneeded clotting and thus prevent heart attacks… and also helps prevent Alzheimer’s disease and osteoporosis.
Digestion – Parsley has been used for ages for soothing way indigestion, heartburn, and stomachaches.
Alkaline – Parsley is alkaline and thus increases your Ph just enough to prevent inflammatory disease.
Antibacterial – Parsley is also a good antibacterial agent that helps to prevent infections.
Eye Health – Parsley contains the powerful eye health agents zea-xanthin, cryptoxanthin, and lutein, that prevent macular degeneration.
Bad Breath – Parsley kills bad breath germs in the mouth and thus keeps your breath smelling clean and sweet.
Pain – Parley contains eugenol which is a local pain killer which can be used for getting rid of gum and tooth pain. Parsley oil can be bought and used specifically for this purpose.
Lowers Blood Sugar – Parley contains eugenol which lowers blood sugar levels… making it great for diabetics.
Cholesterol Free – Parsley contains very little fat, is cholesterol free, it’s high in fiber which is good for your colon… and contains very few calories. Fiber creates a good environment for probiotics to grow… and thus boosts your immune system to keep you healthy.
Contains – Parsley contains calcium and phosphorus for strong bones, potassium for cardiovascular health and water regulation, iron and copper for anemia, magnesium to help you relax, zinc to boost your immune system, manganese for creating important detoxing enzymes. Also Vitamin E for sexual, joint, and skin health.
Good Diuretic – Parsley is one of those foods you should use to off set water retaining foods… because parsley is a good diuretic.
Detoxing – A study was done showing that parsley contains myristicin and apigenin which help to increase a liver enzyme that detoxes the body… also apigenin helps to increase the effectiveness of some cancer treatments. And many people use parsley juice in combination with cucumber and kale juice for detoxing after the holidays.
Wound Healing – Parsley contains a amino acid called “histidine” which is important for healing every tissue in the body.
Lowers Blood Pressure – Parsley helps to regular blood pressure… so if your blood pressure is running high eat a handful of parsley 3 times a day and it will do your body good.
Anti-Inflammatory – Parsley is a very good anti-inflammatory agent helping to prevent disease. When I find inflammation coming on… I eat a handful of parsley and it disappears.
Cooking – Parsley can be used in soups, stews, in tabouli, with mint, used as a rub for meats and fish, with lemons, onions, bulgar wheat, it can be juiced, and used as a flavoring for all kinds of cooked and raw foods.
Side Effects – Parsley contains oxalates so if you are sensitive to oxalates or have kidney problems use parsley sparingly. If possible eat fresh parsley instead of taking parsley supplements… it contains live enzymes.
Growing – You can buy parsley seeds locally or on-line and grow them in full sun in loamy rich soil. Parsley is easy to grow and needs very little attention.
Finding – Just about every grocery store carries fresh parsley of one kind or another, or you can buy it dried in your spice section.
