Today I am really excited to share a review of Michael Angelo’s Lasagna with you! I was given the opportunity to try it and 2 other competitors lasagnas to give you a real-life personal review of the Michael Angelo’s Lasagna compared with other popular brands!
Pre-Baked Lasagnas. All are frozen, comparable brands and all the same variety. Michael Angelo’s Lasagna is the picture on the far right.
Post-Baked Lasagnas. These are the same lasagnas pictured above, just baked and are in
the same order. The Michael Angelo’s Lasagna is the picture on the far right.
I am going to share some details on these lasagnas as outlined below. All lasagnas were Meat Lasagna’s and were approximately the same size. I had several taste testers, so you are not only getting my opinion, but that of others too.
Appearance
All the lasagnas looked yummy to me before they were cooked! But, afterwards I liked the appearance of the first and last pictured above, but not the middle. I don’t know how much this plays into the deciding factor, but pretty doesn’t always cut it for me. Michael Angelo’s is the last one pictured, and it did look pretty to me once cooked.
Price
Michael Angelo’s Gourmet Lasagna was $6.97, and the other two comparison lasagna’s were $5.98 and $4.98 at my store. Based on taste I am going to say you get what you pay for, meaning that the most expensive was one of the favorites, and the least expensive the least favorite.
Ingredients
Now, on to some other facts about the Lasagnas, taste isn’t the only factor in purchasing food for me and it may or may not be for you. But ingredients can play a huge part in my decision as I would prefer to eat ingredients that can be found in my kitchen, and not ingredients I can’t pronounce or don’t even know what they are!
As Michael says, “If you can’t find it in Mom’s kitchen, we won’t use it in our food.” Their commitment to the ingredients, the cooking process and the final meal is unparalleled – as is the satisfaction felt by their customers as they experience what real Italian food is supposed to taste like.
When you look at the ingredient list of the Michael Angelo’s Lasagna, you will find the statement to be true. I read over the ingredients of the two comparable Lasagnas and there were several ingredients in both that I would not have in my kitchen and a few that I didn’t even know what they were.
Nutrition
There were not huge differences to me in the nutrition of any of the lasagnas. If one had more fat, it seemed like it had less calories, and if it had more carbs it had less sodium, etc. Yes, they were different, but not one overall would I say is “healthier” all around or less healthy than another. It really just determines which category you are looking at.
Taste
The first lasagna pictured was the least favorite when taste-tested. Some of my taste testers said it had a lot of ricotta cheese, but generally compared to the other two, the taste just wasn’t as good.
The middle picture was given a vote of being the “best meaty flavor” from my group and for a hearty appetite this met the taste buds as a great dish. The guys loved this lasagna.
The last picture, that of Michael Angelo’s Gourmet Lasagna when tasted was said to have the most unique taste and was overall really good and fresh tasting (it must be those ingredients). It appealed to all the girls more than the guys.
Overall, the lasagna pictured in the middle and the Michael Angelo’s Lasagna were rated pretty equally, but they had different tastes and different reasons why they were both good. So the verdict was to buy both and just switch up the Lasagna night once in a while!
