Over the years, San Francisco psychedelic funksters Monophonics have became crucial to Paris DJs' selections, with no less than 6 appearances in the mixes (check here). Their fifth LP 'In Your Brain' released on Ubiquity Records was one of the 10 best albums of 2012. After a couple of covers self-released as free downloads ('I'd Be Nowhere Today' originally by The Nu People from 1969 and 'My Heart Cries' by The Invincibles from 1965), they've just put out a new killer single, the horn-heavy, psychedelic soul cut 'Promises', described by singer Kelly Finnigan as "a natural next step from our last record, it has a certain quality that really fits in the psychedelic soul pocket while also using elements of reggae with a driving bass line, Cinematic music with kung fu-like horns and a shimmering 12-string acoustic guitar that reflects the sound of the '60s. Plus the bonus was having our talented friend and über musical mind Shawn Lee on mallet percussion and tambourine."

The 45 (released through Colemine Records) was soon followed by a new, seriously funky full-length, 'Sound of Sinning', released by the band themselves on their own imprint Transistor Sound. Monophonics will be on tour in june and july supporting this new record (see the tour dates below), and, to celebrate their show in Paris on june 12 (that's this friday!!) at Le New Morning, we cooked up a special surprise… an exclusive new digital single of a Grant Phabao remix of that same single 'Promises'! The idea germinated mid-may, only a few weeks back, to which the band replied "Awesome. Those (Phabao Remixes) sound really great. Its funny because we were talking about re-recording 'Promises' as a reggae jam… Would love to have it by New Morning." Separate parts and vocals, originally recorded at Shawn Lee's studios in London, were sent across the USA and over the Atlantic into Grant Phabao's inbox, who started working his magic right away, and here it is, straight out of the oven, Monophonics-approved as "super groovy"… we'll let you make your own opinion, the tune is just too fresh to describe with words. And don't miss the Monophonics on tour in Europe, we hope to see you at New Morning on friday (june 12). Well that's if you ain't going to check Shawn Lee at L'Alimentation Générale for the Black Milk Music party of course…
