• Group turnover up slightly to EUR 233 million
• 52% of turnover generated abroad
• Company continues to emphasise broad international focus
• Turnover of EUR 250 million expected for 2013

The Edelmann Group announced stable results for the 2012 financial year. As expected, the producer of top-quality packaging and system solutions from board and paper generated sales at the previous year's level. Turnover increased slightly to EUR 233 million (2011: EUR 230 million). Positive company trends continue to be driven by high order numbers from outside Germany. Edelmann remains convinced of its strong international orientation. Five of its 12 production sites are located abroad, where the company intends to expand its activities further. The acquisition of an additional company in Asia is planned for 2013.
Following the acquisition of Lindauer Druckerei and the Hungarian packaging manufacturer Zalai Nyomda in 2011, the Edelmann Group focused in 2012 on investing in plant and machinery for its sites in Germany. In all, Group investments totalled EUR 10.3 million, or 4.4% of turnover.
These investments included expanding the machinery of Edelmann Leaflet Solutions GmbH in Lindau and Leverkusen. In addition, new IT systems enabled order throughput times to be decreased significantly.
At the Norderstedt site, capacities were expanded by increasing the production area and installing a new printing machine. In all, the company invested EUR 2.0 million in this site near Hamburg, which specialises in the manufacture and sale of folding cartons for pharmaceutical products in small and medium-sized runs.

2012: Core Group expertise prevails on the market
Once again in 2012, the Edelmann Group prevailed with its core expertise: folding cartons, leaflets, and system solutions for the health, beauty, and personal care market and specialised premium market segments. As allocated by sector, health care projects continued to make up 60% of turnover, with the beauty care segment together with specialised premium market segments accounting for 40%. The share of total turnover (from health and beauty care orders) attributable to the leaflets business area amounts to 10%. Altogether the Group’s 1,900 employees produced 3.5 billion folding cartons and 1.1 billion leaflets.

2013: Expansion of capacities
For 2013 as well, Edelmann plans to invest in plant and machinery in order to ensure faster, more efficient production. In addition, Edelmann will expand its capacities for small runs and for customised labelling of packaging. To achieve this, digital printing systems and optimised processes for print approval are to be installed at the headquarters in Heidenheim. In all, the company intends to increase its investment volume to EUR 15.1 million.

Significant increase in turnover expected
The Group continues to emphasise the national and international expansion of production. Edelman is recording constantly growing demand in its branches in Poland, France, Mexico, Hungary, and China. Turnover for 2013 is expected to increase to EUR 250 million. This includes the acquisition of an additional company in Asia.

Offering customers unique packaging solutions
“Going forward, we want to be even more responsive to the specific needs of our customers,” says Managing Director Dierk Schröder. As the latest step in this direction, Edelmann reorganised and realigned its packaging development. The Technical Design Center now brings technical design, graphic services, and the CAD department together under one roof. Thanks to the synergies created, packaging can now be manufactured in a more targeted manner that meets the needs of brands, products, and target groups. In this regard, an idea archive with more than 3,000 designs assists in finding quick solutions. Three-dimensional renderings provide the customer with material that is relevant to making a decision. This enables the time from development to sales launch to be substantially reduced when new products are being introduced.
Once again in 2012, Edelmann earned numerous awards with its innovative solutions, including the European Pro Carton/ECMA Award and the German Packaging Prize.

Edelmann turns 100
In 2013, the Heidenheim packaging producer will celebrate its 100th anniversary. In 1913, Carl Edelmann Sr. acquired a small print shop, which began specialising in the manufacture of folding cartons in 1924. Beginning in the 1950s, his son and son-in-law expanded the operation, turning it into a manufacturer of packaging for the internationally active branded-products industry. “The successful development confirmed our vision. We are convinced that in the future, Edelmann will continue play an important role in the international packaging market,” says Dierk Schröder. Managing Director at Edelmann since 2002, he is primarily responsible for the company’s international growth during recent years. Edelmann will celebrate the anniversary with a ceremony in June.
