Several New Orleans area organizations are accepting donations or calling for volunteers to help those affected by the historic rain and widespread flooding that has plagued south Louisiana.

New Orleans
– Catholic Charities Archdiocese of New Orleans is taking donations at its website, to benefit its sister agencies in Baton Rouge and around the state.
– Little Pnuts Toy Shoppe is hosting a children’s items and toy drive. They are accepting new and gently used clothing, books, new and gently used toys, arts and craft supplies, colors, coloring books and school supplies. Items can be dropped off at 209 Harrison Ave in Lakeview Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Call 504-267-5083 if you are unable to drop items off, and the store will send someone to pick them up.
– Mayor Mitch Landrieu has reactivated the NOLA Pay It Forward fund to help flood victims, a fund he launched in 2011 to help communities flooded by the Mississippi River that year. The Greater New Orleans Foundation runs the fund; people can donate online at www.gnof.org/NOLApayitforward, or by calling 504-598-4663.
Orleans Parish School Board, Recovery School District and New Schools for New Orleans are collecting school supplies, uniforms and gift cards from Wednesday to Monday. Items may be dropped off from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the following locations:
Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, 1116 Jefferson Ave, Uptown.
Bethune Elementary School, 2401 Humanity St. in Gentilly.
Mahalia Jackson Elementary School, 2405 Jackson Ave. in Central City
McDonogh 35 Senior High School, 4000 Cadillac St. in the St. Bernard area.
McMain Secondary School, 5712 South Claiborne Ave. in Uptown/Carrollton.
School Board central offices, 3520 General De Gaulle Drive, Suite 1010 in Algiers.
Youth Opportunity Center, 1331 Kerlerec St. in the Treme-Lafitte.
– Other businesses are collecting various items through Wednesday. They do not need any more clothes, but will take cleaning, pet and baby supplies. They are:

Balance Yoga, 120 South Cortez St. in Mid-City, from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Dashing Bicycles, 1234 N. Broad St. in Bayou St. John, from 10 a.m to 7 p.m.

— Royal Carriages is accepting donations of diapers and wipes, and is asking people to drop off donations to carriage drivers working at Jackson Square, 700 Decatur Street in the French Quarter.
– The Junior League of New Orleans is collecting donations of diapers in all sizes, women’s feminine hygiene products, and gift cards in the amounts of $20 to Target and Wal-Mart. The items may be sent to the organization’s headquarters, at 4319 Carondelet Street in the Milan neighborhood, from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., and will be delivered to shelters in Baton Rouge and Lafayette Wednesday and Thursday, officials said.
– The Louisiana Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, in partnership with the Louisiana State Animal Response Team, is taking pet supplies donations, officials said. Those who wish to help may drop off supplies at Canine Connection on Tchoupitoulas Street in Uptown, Camp BowWow on Conti Street in Mid-City and Demo Diva on Memphis Street in Lakeview. Those who want to donate money can do so at http://www.la-spca.org/donatehome.
– The Orleans Parish Sheriff’s Office is accepting donations of clean clothing starting Monday morning, to assist flood victims in Tangipahoa, St. Helena, East Baton Rouge and Livingston Parishes. Underwear in its original, sealed package will also be accepted. All clothing should be bagged or boxed and can be delivered to the Sheriff’s Office training building at 819 S. Broad St. in Mid-City.
– The Red Cross is accepting monetary donations via its website or telephone, at 1-800-RED CROSS (1-800-733-2767). People can also visit any Lowe’s store in Louisiana to donate, or they may text LAFLOODS to 90999 to donate $10. The Red Cross is also seeking volunteers.
– The Salvation Army is accepting donations at its website, money that will be used to support its emergency response teams who are delivering canteens and other aid to flood victims.
– The United Way of Southeast Louisiana is accepting supplies donations at its office on 2515 Canal Street in the Treme-Lafitte neighborhood, from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday. It will take cleaning supplies, toiletries, water and nonperishable food, diapers, baby formula, and other infant supplies, as well as supplies for pets. The organization is not taking clothing or furniture.

– As of Wednesday, Zeus’ Rescues has accepted more than 90 animals transported from flooded shelters. It is taking donations of cleaning supplies, cat carriers, clay litter, litter pans, dog collars, leashes and puppy pads. People can drop those items off at 4601 Freret St. in the Freret neighborhood, Monday through Friday, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Saturday and Sunday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. The organization is also looking for foster families for the animals, and is accepting PayPal donations to pay for vaccinations and spaying and neutering procedures.
Jefferson
– Celebration Church is accepting financial donations for victims of flooding, collecting emergency relief supplies and calling for volunteers to help clean up debris in affected parishes. The church is accepting supplies at its seven campuses in Arabi, Covington, Gretna, Kenner, Laplace, Metairie and Slidell. New clothing, personal hygiene products, shovels, gloves, masks, and a host of other items will be accepted. – Second Harvest Food Bank is accepting donations of nonperishable food and cleaning supplies for flood victims Monday through Friday at 700 Edwards Ave. in Elmwood and at its Lafayette location, at 215 E. Pinhook, from 7:30 a.m. through 4:00 p.m. People can also donate money online at no-hunger.org.
– The Jefferson Parish Public School System is accepting donations of school supplies until Friday, Aug. 19, for Louisiana school systems that have sustained flood damage. People may drop off donations at their child’s school or at two general drop off points: the system’s Emenes Building at 822 S. Clearview Parkway in Harahan, or the administration building at 501 Manhattan Blvd. in Harvey. Both locations will take donations between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
St. Tammany
– Food Bank of Covington is taking donations. Visit its website to learn more, or call 985-893-3003.
– Honda of Covington is taking nonperishable food items, baby items (diapers, wipes and formula) and first aid items (bandages, hydrogen peroxide, ice packs, antiseptic ointment). It will accept donations until Friday at noon. People can drop off items between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m. at 100 Holiday Square Blvd. in Covington.
– Project Blessings is accepting feminine hygiene products, bandages, antibacterial ointment, toiletries, pet items/food, blankets, book bags, underwear and other items. Items may be dropped off at Victory Bible Church’s Faith Outreach building, 317 West 30th Ave., Suite B in Covington, from 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
– Volunteers from Tallow Creek subdivision are accepting boxes, paper towels, mops, brooms, bleach and other cleaning supplies. People can drop them off at 755 Solomon Drive or 630 Amy Court in Covington. Amy Court’s drop off times are Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
– Tammany Oaks Church of Christ is accepting a variety of donations at 3700 Highway 59 in Mandeville this week.
St. Bernard
– St. Bernard Parish government is working with organizations to collect clothing, shoes and nonperishable items at the following locations:
Celebration Church on 7500 W. Judge Perez Drive in Arabi from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
Chalmette Movies, on 8700 W. Judge Perez Drive from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily
Sigur Civic Center Auditorium at 8245 W. Judge Perez Drive in Chalmette, Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
The home of Heather Fandino, at 708 Ellen Drive in Chalmette from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily.
St. Charles
– The St. Charles Humane Society is accepting prepaid VISA cards to be sent to the Louisiana State Animal Response Team to help pet owners buy supplies.
– St. Charles Parish and the United Way of St. Charles are collecting donations until Friday at the Allen Arterbury Building at 14564 River Road in New Sarpy and at the Edward A. Dufresne Community Center at 274 Judge Edward Dufresne Parkway in Luling.
Items can be dropped off at the Allen Arterbury Building from 8:30 a.m. until 6 p.m. and at the Dufresne Community Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. The parish is collecting toiletries, nonperishable foods, baby foods, formula, and packaged underwear. The locations are not accepting clothing.
– The St. Charles Parish Animal Shelter is accepting donations of cat litter, litter boxes (rectangle-shaped and plastic), cat or dog food, and Dawn dish detergent for decontamination. Items can be sent to 921 Rue La Cannes Drive in Luling from 8:30 a.m. to 6 p.m.
All parishes
– The Associated Professional Educators of Louisiana, which has teacher members across the state, is collecting monetary donations to help teachers affected. People can donate at their website.
