Clifton ParkThe owners of a longtime Schenectady-based appliance store officially opened their Clifton Park satellite store last week bringing the company’s solid reputation for quality and service to Saratoga County.

Marcella’s Appliance Center held its formal grand opening on Oct. 14 with company patriarch John Marcella cutting the ribbon on the company’s shiny new store at 15 Park Avenue in Shoppers World.

Marcella is the namesake of a company with a history that goes back in Schenectady to 1947 when his father, also John, started the business of selling appliances to area homeowners.

On a warm and sunny Friday morning the 3,100-square-foot store sported rows of gleaming appliances, polished wood cabinetry, and a large group of smiling well-wishers who welcomed Marcella to the town.

Marcella and his partners, grandson John Jr. and Lori Julianno, have promised to stock the store with the same premier brands of stoves, refrigerators, dishwashers, air conditioners and washers and dryers found at the company’s flagship store on Broadway in Schenectady.

Some of the brands being carried by the store are, Sub-Zero, Wolf, Jenn-Air, Miele, Samsung, Bosch, KitchenAid, GE, Whirlpool, Frigidaire, Electrolux, and Maytag.

As in the Schenectady store, the company has once again partnered with Don and Terry Zarillo of Zarillo’s Custom Kitchen Designs on appliance cabinetry for those customers who want one stop shopping when renovating their kitchens.

The Clifton Park store had a soft opening in August to make sure each appliance was in its proper place so customers could visualize it in their homes. The store will be managed by longtime area appliance expert Tina Viall.

Though the Clifton Park store is one fifth the size of the one in Schenectady, Marcella noted that the choice of coming to Clifton Park for the company’s only satellite branch was all about location.

“We have a lot of high end customers in northern part of Saratoga (County) and they kept telling me that Schenectady was just too far for them,” he said. “Now they can get everything we offer right from this store. Plus, the owners of the plaza, Windsor Company, made it very amenable. We have a good working relationship with them.” Continued…

Windsor Company president Robert Miller was at the opening and joked that he had been trying to get Marcella to open a store in Clifton Park for years.

“Finally, after all those years, he said yes,” Miller said.

In addition to Miller, the store’s owners and the staff taking part in the ribbon cutting, Mark Eagan, president and CEO of the Capital Region Chamber of Commerce, Assemblyman Jim Tedisco R-Glenville, and Mike Mansion representing Sen. Hugh Farley, R-Niskayuna, joined them.

“Today we’re celebrating a multi-generational business, one that’s very special, as well as a wonderful new store,” Egan said. “Being here makes the store convenient for all the people who live in Saratoga County and the surrounding area.”

Tedisco credited Marcella for continuing the family business in a state that he said, can be tough on businesses.

“You’ve stayed the course and you’ve been successful because of your honesty, integrity, a great product, and giving customers a pretty good deal,” Tedisco said. “Now you’re here in the 112th (Assembly District) where all great things emanate from.”

Marcella joked that he was glad to finally be in Saratoga County after listening to Miller for so many years about opening a store in his plaza.

“He was very instrumental in making this happen,” Marcella said of Miller “and now that we have this beautiful spot we’re ready to go forward offering our wide selection of products and competitive service.”
