Olympic gold medalist Brandon Slay is in Chadron teaching wrestling technique and sharing life skills for success with area kids at Chadron State College’s summer wrestling camp.  The timing was perfect for Slay to head to the northern Panhandle as he keeps a full schedule traveling across the world as a National Coach for USA Wrestling.

Slay spoke at a Fellowship of Christian Athletes event at the Chicoine Center on Sunday evening and shared valuable life skills that go along with competing to be the best in and out of an athletes’ “sports” life.  Slay shared one of those skills with us:

Chadron State Coach Brett Hunter says 20 of his current wrestlers are helping out with camp, plus three assistant coaches and CSC’s trainer that works specifically with wrestling during the season.

Hunter says the biggest goal of summer camp is to help athletes make gains and strides to be prepared for their high school seasons, and especially this year with Slay in town Hunter and the campers are getting a very rare opportunity to learn from one of the best. He added that as a program, institution, and community “we are very fortunate.”

We will catch up with Coach Hunter as camp happens this week and give you his thoughts in our morning sports reports on-air and here on the Panhandle Post website.
