NEW YORK (AP) — Although he’s been gone more than a decade, a new Johnny Cash video has just been released. It’s for the recently discovered Cash recording “She Used To Love Me A Lot.” The song is part of a previously unreleased Cash album called “Out Among The Stars,” due out March 25. JUSTIN BIEBER SUMMONED BACK FOR DEPOSITION
MIAMI (AP) — Justin Bieber is being asked to make a command appearance in Florida — but this is for a deposition, not some kind of show. A lawyer is asking a judge to order the pop star to return to South Florida to answer more questions about a photographer’s lawsuit against Bieber and his bodyguard. The deposition was first held on March 6 — but a lawyer for Bieber cut the questioning short after the singer got questions about his relationship with ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez and fellow singer Usher. In a motion filed yesterday, a lawyer for the photographer says questions about the two weren’t out of bounds — because both were with Bieber during earlier altercations between Bieber and photographers.
JOHNNY MARR INJURES HAND
LONDON (AP) — Former Smiths guitarist Johnny Marr is sporting a cast on his right hand. Marr writes on his Web site he fell while running in London last week. He says he banged his shoulder and then realized his hand was “in a bad way.” He plans to play concerts in England at the end of the month with the cast on before moving on to South America. Marr says, “It’s a bit up in the air at this point. I may have to start drinking heavily.”
SARA EVANS AND FAMILY ON THE ROAD
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — No too many of us can take our kids along with us to work a lot. But if your “business” is that of a professional singer, it can be a little easier than toting a tyke down to the office. Sara Evans says deciding whether to take her kids on tour with her is “a constant balancing act” — one she’s been struggling with for 14 years. She says as much as she wants to be a top artist, she also wants to be the best mom she can be. Evans has had her kids along on tour with her — and she says they are “comfortable on the road.” She says balancing the load between being a mom and a singing star is hard — but “it is definitely doable.”
K.D. LANG HEADS TO BROADWAY
NEW YORK (AP) — k.d. lang says being on Broadway is “a dream come true.” The “dream” ended Sunday when she wrapped up her stint as second star vocalist in “After Midnight,” a musical celebrating Duke Ellington’s years at the Cotton Club in New York’s Harlem. Her one-month run saw her replace Fantasia Barrino in the road. lang says the effects on her music will be “profound.” The effects of the grind of doing eight Broadway shows a week have had a profound affect on her voice. She says in an email exchange with The Associated Press that she is now on vocal rest.
HUNTER HAYES PLANS WORLD RECORD ATTEMPT
NASHVILLE (AP) — Hunter Hayes will attempt to break the Guinness World Record for most concerts played in multiple cities in 24 hours. He will start the “Hunter Hayes: 24 Hour Road Race to End Child Hunger” at “Good Morning America” in New York on May 9. He will play nine other cities and wrap it up with a concert that starts at 5 AM in Philadelphia the next day. He will raise money and awareness for ConAgra’s Child Hunger Ends Here charity. Flaming Lips currently hold the record, with eight shows in 24 hours.
COUNTRY ACTS APPEAR ON GENERAL MILLS PRODUCTS FOR CHARITY
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Florida Georgia Line, The Band Perry and Rascal Flatts are among the acts who will appear on cereal boxes to stamp out hunger. They’re part of the Outnumber Hunger campaign run by General Mills. They will appear on products like Cheerios, Wheaties and Lucky Charms, as well as Betty Crocker, Yoplait and Nature Valley. Consumers can enter a code from specially marked boxes online to donate five meals to a food bank based on the ZIP code entered. Brantley Gilbert, Justin Moore, Eli Young Band, Thomas Rhett and “The Voice” winners Cassadee Pope and Danielle Bradbery are also participating.
”AMERICAN IDOL” CONTESTANTS SING SONGS OF THE CINEMA
LOS ANGELES (AP) — The judges on “American Idol” believe the contestants are finally starting to come into their own. They felt Sam Woolf was starting to loosen up a bit with “Come Together” and so did Dexter Roberts with “Sweet Home Alabama.” Keith Urban told CJ Harris he nailed his performance of “Can’t You See.” Jennifer Lopez complimented MK Nobilette on her “beautiful subtlety” on “To Make You Feel My Love.” Harry Connick Junior thought the band was off for Jessica Meuse (MYOOS) on “The Sound of Silence” but she kept her focus. The judges didn’t know what to make of Ben Briley doing “Bennie and the Jets” instead of his usual country song, and Connick thought Majesty Rose was losing sight of who she is by covering yet another genre with “Let It Go.”
PARAMORE EXPLAIN THE EVOLUTION OF “AIN’T IT FUN”
NEW YORK (AP) — Paramore singer Hayley Williams knows a hit when she hears it, even if it wasn’t meant for her. Williams says guitarist Taylor York was noodling around with a loop that she thought sounded like Paula Abdul meets Siouxsie and the Banshees, but York was just doing it for his own amusement. They started writing, and Williams says before she knew it they had made it funky, added a slap bass and brought in a gospel choir. That’s how the song “Ain’t It Fun” came to be. Williams says it doesn’t sound like a typical Paramore song but if they’re not breaking boundaries, they’re not doing their jobs as artists.
COAL MINING TOWN EFFORT TO CHANGE NAME TO “ROCKY TOP” HITS SNAG
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) — A former coal mining town in Tennessee is running into trouble for a bid to change its name. A developmental group had plans to make Lake City into a tourist mecca if it would agree to change its name to Rocky Top — the same name of a bluegrass standards recorded by Dolly Parton, Glen Campbell and others. There’s a hitch, though. The company that owns the right to the song and other Rocky Top trademarks is suing. It wants to stop the name change and recoup its legal costs. The suit claims the Lake City name change plan infringes on House of Bryant’s copyright and trademarks because it seeks to take advantage of the fame of the song.
PHARRELL WILLIAMS PLANS PERFUME
NEW YORK (AP) — Pharrell Williams is jumping into the perfume scene. He created a fragrance for both men and women called “GIRL” with the help of Japanese fashion company Commes des Garcons. The company’s CEO, Adrian Joffe, says Williams knew exactly how he wanted the perfume to smell like right from the beginning. It will come out in September.
