KALIBO, Aklan – The town of Kalibo and the province of Aklan are vying for this year’s Most Business-Friendly Local Government Units awards of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI).

The awards recognize local government units for “demonstrating outstanding efforts and commendable practices in instituting good governance reforms to promote trade and investments, transparency, efficiency and competitiveness in delivering basic services to fuel inclusive growth.”

The awards complement the efforts of the government to streamline procedures in compliance with Republic Act 9485, or the Anti-Red Tape Act of 2007.

The multi-awarded capital town of Kalibo is a national finalist in the search under Level 1 1st-2nd class municipalities category. In August, the National Competitiveness Council ranked the town fifth most competitive municipality in the country.

Also, the province of Aklan will join in as national finalist in Level 1 1st-2nd class provinces category. Aklan recently received the award of Seal of Good Local Governance from the Department of Interior and Local Government.

LGUs are adjudged on public-private sector partnership, innovations and human resources development, trade, investment and tourism promotions, quality customer service, micro small medium enterprises development, local government collaborations and quality management system.

On Oct. 21, PCCI held its final judging and validation of entries at Fort Bonifacio, Taguig City.The winners will receive their awards during the ceremonies at the closing of the 40th Philippine Business Conference and later this month. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
