ILOILO City – The city government has identified nine schools where classrooms for Senior High School will be built.

The Department of Education (DepEd) recommended these schools for the construction of four-storey buildings with 20 classrooms each.

The city needs 240 classrooms to accommodate more or less 13,000 incoming Senior High School students for school year 2016- 2017.

The following are where these classrooms will be built:

* Bo. Obrero National High School

* Buntatala National High School

* Mandurriao National High School

* A. Bonifacio Elementary School (later on A. Bonifacio Integrated School)

* TCT-AR Foundation Integrated School

* Fort San Pedro National High School

* Iloilo City National High School

* Jaro National High School, and

* Jalandoni Memorial National High School.

Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog said he is also talking to the school administrators of the University of the Philippines, West Visayas State University and Iloilo Science and Technology University. These tertiary schools may “lend” classrooms.

The city government is seeking a bank loan to fund the construction of Senior High School classrooms — P360 million.

The Senior High School is part of the Department of Education’s K-12 Program which covers Kindergarten and 12 years of basic education (six years of primary education, four years of Junior High School and two years of Senior High School).

The K-12 Program aims to provide sufficient time for mastery of concepts and skills, develop lifelong learners, and prepare graduates for tertiary education, middle-level skills development, employment, and entrepreneurship./PN
