ILOILO City – Chan Lim, a Chinese family of artists, exhibits their artworks at SM City Iloilo from Sept. 26 to Oct. 11.
A total of 217 artworks of 34 artists done in Chinese Scroll Painting, Lantern Painting and Oil painting are displayed at the mall’s Event Center as part of the celebration of the Mid-Autumn Festival.
The Chan Lim siblings, Alex, Felix, Rolex and Jolex, who are all engineers by profession and are affiliated with multinational companies, conducted series of art classes, workshops, seminars and on-the-spot painting demonstrations in different areas nationwide. They have joined several art exhibits locally and internationally.
The one in SM City Iloilo is the 13th leg of the family painting exhibits.
“We are not full-time artists. We do this for fun. It’s about sharing our talent to other people,” said Alex Chan Lim.
When asked what it takes to be an artist, he just said that one should have the passion and interest.
“You don’t have to be very talented. It is good to have talent. It is better if you have have interest. It is best if you have the talent, interest and the opportunity,” he added.
As part of their advocacy on arts, the Chan Lim family conducted a free Chinese Painting Workshop on Sept. 25 in Sun Yat Sen High School Auditorium.
Also, on Sept. 26, members of the media and their families were given the chance to learn how to do the Chinese painting through a mini-workshop led by the Chan Lim Family of Artists and Students.
Being one of the sought after and one of the few remaining notable Chinese brush painting artists in the country today, the Chan Lim family continues to showcase the beauty of Chinese art by conducting art classes in their family studio in Pasig City.
