ILOILO City – Western Visayas bested other regions in the swimming competition of the 2015 Private Schools Athletic Association (PRISAA) national meet at the Iloilo Sports Complex here.

With a total of 13 gold, 14 silver and eight bronze medals, Region 6 was once again declared the overall champion in swimming.

The gold medalists were:

* John David Lee in 1,500 meters freestyle (boys, juniors category)

* Angela Liz Eroy in 800 meters freestyle (girls, juniors category)

* Juliana Therese Lee in 200 meters backstroke (girls, juniors category)

* Casy Raybac Gumabong in 200 meters backstroke (men, seniors category)

* Joshua Lee in 100 meters butterfly and breaststroke (boys, juniors category)

* Janelle Andree Saac in 100 meters butterfly (girls, juniors category)

* Yzandra Opina in 100 meters breaststroke (girls, juniors category)

* Patricia Alexis Molino in 200 meters breaststroke (women)

* Jason Villaruz in 100 meters freestyle (boys, juniors category)

* Celina Ann Delotayo in 100 meters freestyle (girl, juniors category)

* Fraces Angela Tan in 50 meters backstroke (girls, juniors category)

* Cattlin Maue Estepar and Janelle Andree Saac in 200 meters freestyle (girls, juniors relay).

Swimming, among other sports competitions, is the lone event with 30 categories for this year’s PRISAA.

Next to Region 6, Region 7 (Central Visayas) has the second most number of golds with five, two silver and five bronze medals.

Region 7 got its gold in 1,500 meters freestyle (men, seniors category), 800 meters freestyle (women, seniors category), 100 meters butterfly (men, seniors category), 100 meters freestyle (women, seniors category), and 200 meters freestyle (women, seniors category).

Region IVA got three gold medals in 100 meters butterfly (women, seniors category), 200 meters breaststroke (men, seniors category) and 50 meters backstroke (women), plus three silver and one bronze medals.

This year’s National PRISAA has over 5,000 participants from across the country.

Sixteen regions with more or less 200 private schools are vying for top honors in 18 sports disciplines up until today.

Iloilo is the overall defending champion this year.

This is the third time Iloilo is hosting the national event. The first was in 1992 and the most recent was in 2007.

Sports events include baseball, basketball, softball, football, sepak takraw, volleyball, beach volleyball, boxing, chess, athletics, dance sports, karatedo, lawn tennis, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, and weightlifting./PN
