2015-07-01

It is the 239th anniversary of our independence from the colonial rule of Great Britain, and we all know what that means; fireworks! From the backyard celebrations (that are frowned upon by local law enforcement) to the huge professional displays all over the country, the Fourth of July is one of the best reasons to go out and see explosives light up the whole sky!

Numerous communities all over the Palm Beaches are planning patriotic displays this year. Below is a listing of some of the larger ones.

West Palm Beach

West Palm Beach will continue its SUMMER IN PARADISE program of free family-friendly activities and events with a three-day patriotic weekend to celebrate the 4th of July.  The City of West Palm Beach invites residents and visitors to celebrate Independence Day at three fun and free events July 3 – 5, 2015 throughout the City. This exciting event line-up will offer a variety of entertainment and activities including fireworks, concerts, food, agility games, kid’s activities and much more.

The city’s Northwest Neighborhood will host BBQ, Brews & Blues on Friday, July 3, a lively event in this historic community where guests can sample for free southern soul food and craft beers while taking in live music from local and national blues artists.  4th on Flagler, South Florida’s largest outdoor Independence Day celebration, is on Saturday, July 4 on the West Palm Beach Waterfront with tons of music, food, and activities for the whole family with the fireworks extravaganza at 9:00 p.m.  And on Sunday, July 5, a new patriotic event will debut on the West Palm Beach Waterfront.  War Games is an exciting and rigorous fitness battle at the Meyer Amphitheatre that pits the military branches against each other while guests cheer on their favorite participants and teams.  Details for all city events follow below:

The City of Boynton Beach is celebrating the 4th of July in style by presenting a FREE community event at Intracoastal Park. Enjoy live music and family entertainment from 6:00 p.m. until 10:30 p.m.

The first band to perform will be The New Horizon Band from 6:00 to 7:15 p.m.  The band was formed a mere five years ago but they have a sound that will make you want to move like you did when you were a teenager with feet tapping and hands clapping.  The members of the band have a wide range of talent and have opened for artists including Percy Sledge, Archie Bell and the late, great B.B. King.  The eight member band includes bass guitar, drums, guitar, keyboards, saxophone, and trumpet and they’ve been playing all over Palm Beach County, including at Sunfest, Art Festival Belle Glade, Jazz After Dark and Jazz on the Avenue.

The second band is set to perform at 7:30 p.m. and again at 9:20 p.m. immediately following the fireworks (until 10:20 p.m.).  Big Night Out will be performing their own beautiful blend of Latin, Island and R & B.  Big Night Out features a powerful horn section and grooving conga, which add to the commanding vocals of Frank Alverez.

Over the past decade, Big Night Out has become one of southwest Florida’s most in demand dance bands.  The band’s lineup includes the area’s top musicians and we are proud to welcome them to southeast Florida and the Boynton Beach July 4th Festival.  Big Night Out is sure to get us east-coasters rocking and rolling to lively music.

Food and beverage vendors will also be on site throughout the entire event.  Continuous activities are planned in the Kid’s Corner including arts and crafts, a petting zoo and a watermelon eating contest.  Limited seating will be available and spectators can bring their own blankets and chairs.  The evening culminates in a spectacular, musically-choreographed fireworks display at 9:00 p.m. sharp.

Intracoastal Park is located at 2240 N. Federal Highway, just south of Gateway Boulevard and overlooks the Intracoastal Waterway and the Boynton Inlet.

A free park and ride shuttle from Boynton Beach City Hall, 100 E. Boynton Beach Boulevard and Boynton Beach High School, 4975 Park Ridge Blvd. at Gateway Blvd., just west of I-95 from 5:30 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. is available. No pets or personal fireworks allowed for the safety of all spectators.
