Manager reaction – Chelsea 2-0 Leicester

Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho on Sky Sports: “We didn’t play good in the first half. Leicester came with great defensive intensity, trying to scare us in counter-attack and we were a bit slow – slow in moving the ball and slow thinking and we needed to change and we did that.

“The second half was compete control. I don’t forget they had a good chance with the result 0-0 but we had so many chances, so many opportunities to score obviously we deserved the victory.”

17:04:

Chelsea 2-0 Leicester

Jose Mourinho is looking fairly content with life as he talks to the media about Chelsea’s win. It could have been very different though had David Nugent kept his head when through on goal early in the second half for Leicester.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois did well to save with his legs but he should not have been given the chance.

17:00:

FINAL SCORE VOTE

Have your say on the best performance of the afternoon in our Final Score vote. We’re asking who is your team of the day? The vote closes at 17:20 BST and results will be announced on Final Score on BBC Two (England & Wales only) shortly after.

16:59:

Chelsea and Swansea fans will like the look of the Premier League table as they sit top of the pile with two wins from two. Arsenal will look to join them with a win against Everton this evening. Still, early, early days, but everyone likes being top of the table don’t they?

16:58:

Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer at Selhurst ParkCrystal Palace 1-3 West Ham

“A very comfortable victory for West Ham United and with some of the style co-owners David Sullivan and David Gold have demanded.

“This rounds off a miserable 10 days for Crystal Palace and chairman Steve Parish must address the appointment of a new manager as a matter of urgency.”

Dave Chapman: Chelsea are going to be a real force this year. Not sure even City will stop them.

Leslie: This Leicester City side are going to raise eyebrows throughout the season

Mendi: This is what we were missing last season!!! Now Chelsea will be goal machine!!

16:55:

FULL-TIME – Crystal Palace 1-3 West Ham

You can imagine Palace chairman Steve Parish will be making a few phone calls this evening as he looks to get his club’s managerial situation sorted. A dominant and deserved victory from an impressive West Ham side.

16:53:

Alistair Mann, BBC Match of the Day commentator at the Liberty StadiumSwansea 1-0 Burnley

“Swansea will be pleased with the three points, but not necessarily the manner of the win. Once again the newly-promoted side have learned a harsh lesson that you have to take your chances when they come. Burnley didn’t and they lost.

“Garry Monk’s side could’ve been pegged back by a very good second half from the visitors. Swansea were good value for their lead in the first half, but Burnley missed a number of opportunities after the break.”

16:51:

FULL-TIME – Chelsea 2-0 Leicester

Comfortable enough for Chelsea in the end but Leicester certainly gave them a scare. Two wins out of two for Jose Mourinho’s men.

16:51:

FULL-TIME – Southampton 0-0 West Brom

The initial delivery is awful from Chris Brunt as it hits the first man and his second attempt is even worse. Game over at Southampton.

16:50:

FULL-TIME – Swansea 1-0 Burnley

16:49:

Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Corner for West Brom. Can they?

Infostrada Sports: Diego Costa is the first player to score in both his first two league matches for Chelsea since Deco in the 2008/09 season.

16:48:

Southampton 0-0 West Brom

West Brom and Southampton are both looking for their first wins of the season and they have three minutes of added time to get it.

16:46:

Swansea 1-0 Burnley

Three minutes of injury-time at the Liberty Stadium. Can Burnley get the equaliser they deserve?

16:46:

Southampton 0-0 West Brom

West Brom’s last throw of the dice as Stephane Sessegnon comes on for Saido Berahino.

16:43:

Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Entering the last five minutes at Southampton. Can anyone find a winner? The first 85 minutes has suggested not.

16:43:

Team news- Everton v Arsenal (17:30 BST)

Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Nacho Monreal and Per Mertesacker all come into the Arsenal team from the side which beat Crystal Palace last weekend.

Everton have Seamus Coleman back in the XI, with Romelu Lukaku and Steven Naismith leading the line.

Everton XI: Howard, Coleman, Jagielka, Distin, Baines, Barry, McCarthy, Mirallas, Naismith, Pienaar, Lukaku.

Arsenal XI: Szczesny, Debuchy, Mertesacker, Chambers, Monreal, Flamini, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Wilshere, Ramsey, Ozil, Sanchez.

16:41:

BBC London 94.9Crystal Palace 1-3 West Ham

Former Queens Park Rangers forward Bradley Allen: “West Ham are totally dominating, gripping the game. They’re being very professional and there doesn’t look any danger of this match being turned on its head.”

Listen to Crystal Palace v West Ham United on BBC London 94.9.

16:40:

Danny Mills, Final ScoreChelsea 2-0 Leicester

On Chelsea’s signing of Drogba: “I think it is a very shrewd signing. He is not going to play every week but when you look at the bench and know he can come on and score a goal.

“He has got that presence and that aura, and defenders are going to think we have just got rid of Costa and now we have to cope with Drogba.”

16:38:

Less than 10 minutes to go around the grounds now. Still flat at Southampton while Burnley are still pressing for an equaliser at Swansea. Chelsea and West Ham look safe for their three points.

16:38:

Swansea 1-0 Burnley

Burnley had dominated the second half, but nearly get caught with a sucker-punch.

Swansea substitute Jefferson Montero floats in a cross from the left wing and Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton gets there ahead of Bafetimbi Gomis to punch clear. However, the punch falls to Ki Sung-Yueng but he fires wildly over the top. Swansea lead 1-0 with 10 minutes left.

16:39:

SUBSTITUTION- Crystal Palace 1-3 West Ham

Dwight Gayle is on in place of Fraizer Campbell. Palace fans will be hoping Gayle can repeat his heroics of last season, when he scored twice late on to snatch a 3-3 draw against Liverpool.

16:37:

SUBSTITUTION- Chelsea 2-0 Leicester

Party time at Stamford Bridge as the home fans rise as one to greet Didier Drogba’s return. The Ivorian replaces goal scorer Diego Costa having re-signed for the club in the summer.

If Costa continues as he started his Blues career, it won’t be long before he receives similar Chelsea adulation.

16:35:

Football League latest- League One and League Two

Vassell scores to put Peterborough 1-0 ahead at fellow League One high-flyers Bradford. No, not that Vassell – young Posh striker Kyle is the man who does the damage.

South Yorkshire sides Doncaster and Sheffield United have taken second-half leads against Colchester and Crawley respectively, while Yeovil are also 1-0 ahead against recently-promoted Scunthorpe.

Early League Two leaders Morecambe are now 2-1 in front at Cambridge, while Cheltenham and Plymouth trail by the same scorelines at Tranmere and Bury after pulling goals back. Only one game is still goalless in the fourth tier – Oxford and Portsmouth struggling to break the other down.

16:33:

GOAL- Chelsea 2-0 Leicester – Eden Hazard (77 mins)

Game over, surely. Jose Mourinho punches the air as Eden Hazard cuts inside from the right, beats a Leicester defender, before firing into the net under Kasper Schmeichel.

The goalkeeper might have done better but Hazard’s shot did take a slight deflection off Leicester defender Wes Morgan.

16:31:

Plenty to play for with less than 20 minutes remaining around the grounds. West Ham will fancy their work is almost done at Palace, but Chelsea and Swansea know their goal advantages can be wiped away in a second. Is there a winner at Southampton?

16:29:

CLOSE!- Southampton 0-0 West Brom

A great effort from James Ward-Prowse from a free-kick almost gives Southampton the lead. The midfielder’s dipping shot beats the wall and clips the outside of the post with Ben Foster scrambling across goal. The game has opened up a bit now.

16:28:

Football League latest- Championship

Stuart Pearce’s return to Nottingham Forest continues to go to plan – the Championship leaders are crusing against visitors Reading. Forest’s £1.5m summer signing Michail Antonio, who started his professional career at the Royals, pokes in his second of the afternoon before Matty Fryatt and Britt Assombalonga make it 4-0.

Nahki Wells taps 10-man Huddersfield, who are still to taste victory this season, ahead against Charlton. Yorkshire rivals Rotherham take a slender 1-0 lead at Millwall - which means only Wolves against Cardiff remains goalless.

Fulham level at Derby - briefly. The Rams score two more goals in a minute to lead 3-1 and leave the Cottagers staring a fourth straight defeat in the face.

Join the debate at #bbcfootball- Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

Lawal Harby: Who said Costa means ‘average’ in another language?…who?

Hashim Albahbahani: Is Ivanovic still considered a make shift right back? One of the best and most consistent full backs in the league.

16:27:

SUBSTITUTION- Chelsea 1-0 Leicester

Oscar is removed by Jose Mourinho and replaced by Brazilian Willian. Chelsea know another goal is needed with Leicester threatening on the break.

David Nugent must be feeling pretty sick at the moment though after fluffing his lines when the scores were level. You can’t afford to miss chances like that in the Premier League.

16:27:

GREAT SAVE!- Swansea 1-0 Burnley

Some of today’s games have not been the best, but the crowd at the Liberty Stadium are being treated to great entertainment. Burnley have looked a different team in the second half and only a superb finger-tip save from Lukasz Fabianski keeps the hosts ahead.

David Jones’s effort is stopped by the Polish goalkeeper, who just gets enough on the ball to not only keep it out of the goal but away from a sliding Lukas Jutkiewicz. The striker ends up in the net. The ball doesn’t.

16:25:

Danny Mills, Final ScoreChelsea 1-0 Leicester

“Chelsea were building concerted pressure… OK they were hit once or twice on the counter-attack, but it was deserved.”

16:25:

BBC London 94.9Crystal Palace 1-3 West Ham

Former Queens Park Rangers forward Bradley Allen: “West Ham had been knocked out of their stride. After Chamakh’s goal you thought Palace could go on and overturn their deficit but after that Carlton Cole goal, you would expect West Ham to go on to pick up their first win of the season.”

Listen to Crystal Palace v West Ham United on BBC London 94.9.

16:21:

CLOSE!- Swansea 1-0 Burnley

That could be a costly miss from Burnley. Lukas Jutkiewicz gets ahead of Swansea defender Jordi Amat, but the flicked header from the edge of the six-yard area just goes over the bar. That should have been an equaliser. You can’t waste those sort of chances in the Premier League.

16:21:

GOAL- Crystal Palace 1-3 West Ham – Carlton Cole (62 mins)

The Hammers are in dreamland as Carlton Cole scores his first goal since February.

Crystal Palace fail to deal with a ball into the box and Cole volleys home from inside the penalty area after Damien Delaney’s could only partially clear.

Big Sam promised more attacking football this season and they are certainly delivering this afternoon.

16:18:

GOAL- Chelsea 1-0 Leicester – Diego Costa (63mins)

It is that man again. Chelsea’s £32m summer signing Diego Costa makes it two goals in two Premier League games as he stabs home from eight yards after chesting down Branislav Ivanovic’s cross.

Ivanovic deserves massive credit for his marauding run down the right but also great composure by Costa to finish under heavy pressure.

1.16:18:

Swansea 1-0 Burnley

Burnley enjoy their best spell of the game as they take charge of the ball. But they are struggling to create clear-cut opportunities.

Danny Ings, who has looked the Clarets’ best player this afternoon, has a half-volley blocked, but it is still quite a comfortable game for Swansea’s number one Lukasz Fabianski. His side still lead 1-0.

16:18:

CLOSE!- Southampton 0-0 West Brom

West Brom make a change early in the second half with record signing Brown Ideye coming on for Victor Anichebe in attack. The latter picked up a knock in the first half and has been unable to shake it off. Can the Nigerian provide a bit more punch in attack for the Baggies?

Brown Ideye’s first touch almost results in the opening goal as he rises well above Maya Yoshida and Ryan Bertrand at the back post to meet a cross from the left, but his downward header is the wrong side of the post and into the side-netting.

Phoenixville: This is the first time I have seen Chelsea play open game in more than a year and yet they dreadful in the attack

Ben Goodwin: Some great saves from Courtois. Chelsea have a huge gap between defence and attack. Did Matic and Fabregas leave at half-time?

Harry Kimberley: Sure I’m not the only one that think @OfficialFOXES could get something here

16:16:

Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Whatever Jose Mourinho has said at half-time, it has worked. His side are playing in a completely different gear as they pile forward incessantly looking for the opener.

Cesc Fabregas is finally having an influence and surely it is a matter of time before Leicester’s resistance is broken?

16:15:

BBC London 94.9Crystal Palace 1-2 West Ham

Former Queens Park Rangers forward Bradley Allen: “West Ham can’t clear their lines at the moment and Keith Millen will be thinking ‘Come on, boys. Keep them locked in there and let’s see if we can get two goals in quick succession’. This is a more-than-watchable game.”

Listen to Crystal Palace v West Ham United on BBC London 94.9.

16:15:

Danny Mills, Final ScoreChelsea 0-0 Leicester

“David Nugent will be kicking himself if Leicester don’t get anything from this match, It was a great save from Courtois but Chelsea are really going for it and that is where they could be caught out.”

16:14:

CLOSE!- Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Chelsea almost make David Nugent pay for his blunder as Cesc Fabregas gets the ball with just goalkeeper Kasper Schmeichel to beat. His attempted dink is parried over by the Leicester man. Surely the wrong choice by Fabregas.

This game has come to life.

16:14:

Phil McNulty, BBC Sport Chief Football Writer at Selhurst ParkCrystal Palace 1-2 West Ham

“Amazing how swiftly the mood can change. If James Tomkins had scored that header there would surely have been no way back. Now Crystal Palace are back in this and Selhurst Park is rocking.”

16:12:

WHAT A MISS!- Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

What a chance for Leicester as David Nugent races through Chelsea’s defence but, with just goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois to beat, his shot is blocked by the Belgium international. You have to score them, David.

16:11:

Southampton 0-0 West Brom

Time for Shane Long at Southampton. The £12m Saints striker comes on for Steven Davis as boss Ronald Koeman understandably looks for his team to spark into life. Big money, big pressure. Over to you Shane.

16:08:

Swansea 1-0 Burnley

Swansea are still ahead, but only because of a wonderful block from captain Ashley Williams. Jordi Amat plays a sloppy pass in his own penalty area straight to Lukas Jutkiewicz, but the Burnley striker’s goal-bound effort is blocked as Williams throws himself in front of the shot.

The Swans have looked good in the first half, but still need a second goal.

16:08:

GOAL- Crystal Palace 1-2 West Ham – Marouane Chamakh (48 mins)

That’s better by Palace as they work their way back into the game. Mile Jedinak scoops the ball across to Marouane Chamkh who drills home from 20 yards.

James Tomkins earlier headed against the bar for West Ham.

16:07:

HITS THE WOODWORK- Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Oscar strikes a shot against the inside of the post from inside the area before Branislav Ivanovic has a header kept out by Kasper Schemiechel. Chelsea look to mean business this half with Leicester up against it.

16:06:

KICK-OFF- Southampton 0-0 West Brom

16:06:

KICK-OFF- Crystal Palace 0-2 West Ham

16:01:

Swansea 1-0 Burnley

These half-time sprinklers often find their target. A draw was held on the Liberty Stadium pitch during the break, before a sprinkler gives the participants a good soaking. But at least their team are playing well, and it is sunny in south Wales, so smiles all round.

Opta Joe: 2 – Stewart Downing has bagged 2 goals in his last 4 games (in all comps) after failing to score in 44 appearances before that. Aim.

Gary Lineker, Match of the Day presenter

Former Tottenham and England striker Gary Lineker: West Ham are 2 up at Palace with 2 glorious goals, playing a brand of football that will more than satisfy Big Sam’s employers.

15:59:

It has to be said it hasn’t been the best few hours of Premier League football, although I’m sure a lot of West Ham fans will be arguing against that statement.

Plenty of time for that to change though. Surely we can expect a bit more quality after the break?

Opta Joe: 2 – Gylfi Sigurdsson has already assisted two goals for Swansea this season, after providing none in 25 apps for Spurs last season. Swan.

15:56:

Football League latest- League One and League Two

Goals are also flying in across League Two – 18 to be precise. Four of those have come at Accrington where the home side’s 2-0 advantage has been pegged back by Luton. Early leaders Morecambe look good value for their fourth straight win as they lead 1-0 at Cambridge.

League One is letting everybody down in the goal stakes though – seven of the 12 matches are goalless. Recently-relegated Barnsley have made a good start to third-tier life and are 2-0 to the good against Gillingham. Unbeaten Fleetwood are still goalless at home to fellow promoted side Chesterfield, while winless Crewe are 1-0 behind at Swindon.

Martyn Wrather: Those claiming the EPL to be the best in the world would struggle to justify those claims judging by the fare offered today

Matthew Tilbury: It’s a shame when a captain is the weak link in a team. Kevin Nolan’s replacement opens the scoring. What was missing last week.

Daniel Powys: Wow. Looks like West Ham are gonna be first on #MOTD. Impressive!

15:55:

HALF-TIME- Chelsea 0-0 Leicester

Chelsea’s £32m striker Diego Costa will be hoping for better service than he has had in the first half. As shown by the graphic above, the Spaniard has had just two touches inside Leicester’s penalty area. It only takes a second though for that to change….
