A mutual friend of mine and Musharraf told me about the luxurious and deluxe lifestyle of former President Pervaiz Musharraf, when we met on the lush lawns of Islamabad Club yesterday. The person had to wait weeks before he could get access to the Musharraf in his plush mansion due to the security clearance. The things he saw inside were enough to shame a gulf prince.
The 100 sqm palatial residence of Musharraf is guarded by 300+ security officers who are equipped with state-of-the-art weapons. There is a special kennel of military dogs who are specially trained to traverse the premises. Infrared cameras are installed on the trees and every inch of the sprawling lawns up to the fence and beyond are covered by alarms and CCTV. There is a control room inside manned by 5 people at the same time who work in 8 hour shift, and it operates round the clock.
The drainage system is also monitored by cameras lest somebody try to sneak in from there. Food for Musharraf is prepared by his own chef on the premises and is tasted by the chef himself in front of Musharraf before Musharraf touches it. Musharraf starts easting after 20 minutes of chef tasting. Two doctors with five nurses remain on duty all the time, and there is bullet proof ambulance plus a helicopter always remain alert in case of emergency.
But does he feel secure, comfy and happy? Well my friend who visited him says otherwise. He says that Musharraf seems very confused, angry, ill-tempered, and was acting kind of crazy. He fears that despite of all security he will be eliminated.
