car rigged with explosives, police say
Lakeside, Calif. – The California man suspected of kidnapping a friend of 16 years, the family may have abandoned his car as he was fleeing and rigged with explosives, police said. Oregon State Police say they have received more than 130 tips after an Amber Alert was issued for James Lee DiMaggio, 40, and his blue Nissan Versa with California license plates.
A possible sighting was reported in northern California near Alturas Wednesday afternoon, followed by another about 50 miles along the same road near Lakeview, in south central Oregon.
DiMaggio is an outdoor enthusiast, and people are invited to be on the lookout in the campsites and other rural areas, reports the Los Angeles Times, citing police.
DiMaggio, 40, may have had an “unusual excitement” with the missing girl, Hannah Anderson, said Capt. Duncan Fraser of San Diego County Sheriff. DiMaggio was described by police as a close friend of the family that Anderson children called him “Uncle Jim,” the LA Times reports.
“It’s kind of working theory, it can be something of a motivator,” Fraser said Thursday.
Sunday night, authorities found the body of Hannah’s mother – 44 years, Christina Anderson – when they extinguished the flames in the rural house DiMaggio. The body of a child was also discovered as they sifted through the rubble in Boulevard, a small town 65 miles east of San Diego. The body may be that of 8 years, Hannah’s brother, Ethan Fraser said it could take several days to identify the major burnt remains. Investigators were unable to extract DNA.
Evidence found in the rubble suggested DiMaggio reportedly fled with explosive, Fraser said, declining to elaborate on what was found. The car can be trapped, he said.
“If someone comes in the car, they should be cautious,” said Fraser.
DiMaggio is wanted on suspicion of murder and arson in a search that began in California and spread to Oregon, Washington, Nevada, British Columbia and the State of Baja California, Mexico. Eight other FBI agents have been assigned to a command post at the head of San Diego Sheriff, as enforcement agencies, national and local laws were on alert.
Fraser, whose office had hundreds of leads on the fate of DiMaggio said the tip of Oregon appeared “very credible.”
“We take very seriously,” he said.
\ Washington State Patrol responded to reports of sightings on Interstate 5, including the area of Tacoma, Vancouver and at least one near Bremerton, said Sgt. Jason Hicks.
Messages seeking DiMaggio and children Anderson has appeared on the digital display signs and highway signs, said Bob Hoever, director of special programs for the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children. Rang loudly on mobile phones in the four western states where Amber Alerts were issued.
In Mexico, companies airports, buses and taxis and the law enforcement agencies were on the lookout, said Alfredo Arenas, international liaison for the Baja California state police.
“This is an effort a nearly all-hands on deck. This is huge, “said Fraser.
DiMaggio, a telecommunications technician at Scripps Research Institute in San Diego, was close to their parents for years.
The father of Christina Anderson, Christopher Saincome, said his daughter visited the house DiMaggio say goodbye before moving to Texas.
Dawn MacNabb, whose son, Alan, was a close friend of Hannah said Hannah said Friday that his son would visit the Andersons DiMaggio in his house before moving.

DiMaggio argued with Hannah when he took one in Hollywood to celebrate her 16th birthday last month, Chavez and MacNabb said.
MacNabb said DiMaggio sometimes took Hannah and her friends to her house and she felt quite uncomfortable to warn Christina Anderson.

James DiMaggio Manhunt: Car found in rural Idaho;
Campers may have spotted the suspect and missing California teen, sheriff says
Officials say they have located the car of alleged kidnapper James DiMaggio in rural Idaho areas after receiving a tip from a group of campers on horseback they may have spotted DiMaggio and missing California teen Hannah Anderson.
The search for Anderson, 16, and the man authorities describe as a close friend of his family stretched across the American West and Mexico and Canada.
On Wednesday, the group of campers on horseback came into contact with a man and a woman in the field they later told authorities seemed to be on site, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said at a news conference Friday afternoon noon. Campers said the two were seen twice with backpacks and tents outside Cascade, Idaho, about 70 miles north of Boise.
The region has a rugged terrain and difficult to navigate with vehicles, Gore said.
“They seem to think that the two were out of place in this area with camping gear light they had,” said Al Gore.
The group had a “brief conversation” with the couple, Gore said. After their return from their trip, they saw reports on the Amber Alert was issued for DiMaggio and adolescents, and contacted local authorities, Gore said.
According to the reports of campers, the girl suspected of being Hannah Anderson appeared to be healthy, Gore said.
“As far as we know, he did not look as if she was held against her will,” said Al Gore.
Sunday night, authorities found the body of Hannah’s mother – 44 years, Christina Anderson – when they extinguished the flames in the rural house DiMaggio California. The body of a child was also discovered as they sifted through the rubble in Boulevard, a small town 65 miles east of San Diego. The body may be that of 8 years, Hannah’s brother, Ethan, but it could take several days to identify the major burnt remains. Investigators were unable to extract DNA.
In Idaho, there was no observation of a little boy, Gore said.
After searching the area, officers found the car DiMaggio, a blue Nissan Versa on Friday about six miles from where the couple was spotted, Gore said. The car was covered with brush and license plates had been removed, but officials have confirmed that it was DiMaggio with an identification number, Gore said.
Officials say the report is part of their theory that DiMaggio planned the kidnapping. DiMaggio had recently purchased camping equipment, Gore said.
Authorities said earlier they believe DiMaggio may have abandoned his car as he was fleeing and rigged with explosives. bomb technicians and arson have been established to make sure the vehicle before forensic tests are conducted, Gore said.
State and federal authorities, work to comb the area for any signs of DiMaggio and adolescents, Gore said.

Hannah Anderson Rescue: Chance encounter in Idaho desert
leads to save 16 missing teenager in California
BOISE, Idaho – The two couples who tipped authorities about the fate of 16 years, Hannah Anderson and his alleged abductor said they knew something was wrong when they came across the pair in the hinterland of Idaho.
Mark and Christa John Sweet, Idaho, were out riding with another breeder and his wife Wednesday when they fell on Anderson and 40 years, James Lee DiMaggio. They would then recognize the girl on television as being an Amber Alert.
“When they came to the lake, it was like a square peg in a round hole – it does not fit, it could be an outdoor enthusiast in California, but he was not a lover of the outdoors in Idaho … The kind of red flags went up. , “Said John.
The girl ended up being Anderson, a Californian teenager who had been missing for about a week after she was abducted by DiMaggio, a family friend also suspected of killing his mother and brother. After the tip, police found them Saturday afternoon, fatally shooting DiMaggio and Rescue Anderson unharmed.
Other tips that came after the Amber Alert has led investigators to Oregon after DiMaggio and adolescents have been identified there. The trick of John, however, has helped investigators discovered the car DiMaggio, hidden under the brush at a trail near the Frank Church of No Return Wilderness in central Idaho river.
John told reporters that one of the biggest red flags is that the two do not seem interested in talking about, what he said was unusual for campers they fell on the trail. Something particularly strange, he said, is that the old man had a gray cat with him.
“I said, ‘What do you do with a cat here?” John said, adding a cat was only good for attracting mountain lions and wolves in the region. John said the man “just a little smile, had a small smile on her face,” but said nothing.

The girl was as calm and seemed frightened, John and his wife both said. According to the couple, she said nothing, except for “Looks like we’re all in trouble now” in response to something John said. The second breeder, Mike Young, said he thought it was strange, she wore pajamas or sweatpants while increasing. Yet another red flag was that all their camping gear looked brand new, said John.
It was not until the amber alert, however, they realized that the situation was much more serious than they thought.
“For us to be there at the precise moment was a chance in a trillion,” said Christa John. “It was just one of those looking for life events.”
law enforcement officers first spotted two people who looked like Anderson and DiMaggio, on Saturday afternoon, they flew over the desert area in a plane, according to a statement from the Ada County Sheriff’s spokeswoman Andrea Dearden.
The air was filled with smoke blown into the distant forest fires, and makes both fly and see the hard ground, Dearden said. The commanders of the police decided to send a team of FBI hostage rescue immediately for Hannah while they could.
The mountainous area is extremely steep, and the nearest point where helicopters could drop the team was more than a two-hour hike away. The agents are much closer to the camp, waited until DiMaggio and Hannah separated and moved in.
The FBI moved the youth to a place where it could be picked up by a helicopter. The FBI will not release details of what happened between DiMaggio and law enforcement at the campsite until an investigation is completed, except to say DiMaggio was shot.
FBI special agent in charge Mary Rook Salt Lake City said the FBI will continue to work with law enforcement in both Idaho and California, as the case back transitions Sheriff’s Department San Diego.
Anderson seems to be unharmed and was taken to a hospital where Idaho crisis counselors and health care providers have been his assistant. His father was to arrive in Idaho on Sunday to meet with her.
“We’ll make sure it gets as much care as possible, physically and emotionally,” said Dearden.
The FBI said it was sending a team to investigate what took place before, during and after the shooting.
The location is not far from where the riders had spotted the pair.
The case began when the charred bodies of the mother of Hannah Anderson, Christina Anderson, 44 and 8 years, the adolescent brother, Ethan Anderson, were found to burn the house DiMaggio, near San Diego, near the Mexican border.

She was abducted on August 4 by James Lee DiMaggio, 40, his father’s best friend who was like an uncle to him and his brother Ethan. DiMaggio had invited the children and their mother, Christina Anderson, 44, in her home on the Boulevard, a rural town 65 miles to the east of San Diego.
“He told us that he was losing his home because of money problems, we went there last time to support it, and have fun riding karts there, but deceived us, “wrote Anderson.
Anderson said DiMaggio tied up his mother and brother in his garage. Their bodies were found after a fire destroyed the house. She said she did not know they were dead until an FBI agent told him the hospital after the rescue Saturday.
“I wish I could go back in time and risk my life to try to save them. I will never forgive myself for not trying hard to save them,” she wrote.
Anderson said she “essentially” was awake for six days straight and DiMaggio ignored his requests for food. She could not try to escape because DiMaggio had a gun and “threatened me and all those who have tried to help kill.”
Anderson said she was too scared to ask for help when the pair met four riders in the remote desert Wednesday. The riders were not reported observations to the police the next day, after returning home and learning the massive research covering much of the western United States and parts of Canada and Mexico.
“I had to be quiet I do not want them to get hurt. I was afraid he would kill her, “she wrote.
The girl said DiMaggio threatened to kill her if she does not help to hide his blue Nissan Versa with tree branches. Authorities discovered the car on Friday leading to his rescue the next day.
Asked if she would have preferred DiMaggio received a sentence of life in prison instead of being killed by FBI agents, she said, “He deserved what he got.”
Anderson admitted uncomfortable around DiMaggio even before the kidnapping, saying that he once said he was drawn to her.
“He said it looked more like a collapse of the family as he had feelings as he did not want anything bad to happen to me,” she wrote.
She said she did not tell his parents because DiMaggio was the best friend of his father “and I do not want to spoil anything of them.”
Monday, Anderson had his nails – pink and blue for his mother for her brother. She said she plans to return to El Capitan High School in east San Diego suburb of Lakeside for his junior year.
She said she was still in shock. When a commentator said that his answers seemed to lack emotion, she wrote: “I try to stay strong. You do not know that I could cry answer these questions at the moment. ”
Therapists say Anderson faces a long recovery, but the support of family and friends can help to lead a happy and productive life. Advisors can focus on the recognition of the trauma but not allow control decisions.
His father said at least two people he plans to move with Hannah in Tennessee, where he lives.
Move would be a father “completely normal reaction,” said Jessica Donohue-Dioh, a professor of social work at Xavier University in Cincinnati. However, she warned that it should not be an attempt to bury the past.

Hannah Anderson Updated: Kidnapped California

“She had a wonderful, terrible ordeal,” said Brett Anderson, who refused to answer questions after reading a brief statement on Monday. He pleaded for privacy.
Christopher Saincome, the grandfather of Hannah, said his son-in-law wanted to take Hannah with him to Tennessee, where he recently moved. Saincome have urged him to stay in the San Diego area, where she grew up and has a large circle of friends.
“I think she needs to be here with friends,” said Saincome. “I know it is very difficult. One of his best friends was with her, talk to her.”
Anderson is a gymnast at El Capitan High School in Lakeside, one in the east San Diego suburb of 54,000 people, where she also participated in a dance class advanced. The young incoming recently celebrated a birthday with about two dozen friends in a bar cabaret San Diego.
Her world upside down when August 4, according to the authorities, a longtime friend of the family was removed after killing his mother and younger brother and abandon in his burning house on the Boulevard, a city distance to 65 miles east of San Diego in the United States-Mexico border. DiMaggio James Lee, 40, died in the shooting Saturday with FBI agents in an alpine lake.
Hannah Anderson did not know that his mother and brother had died before she was rescued, San Diego County Sheriff Bill Gore said.
“I can not be clearer. She was a victim in this case, it was not a willing participant,” Gore said at a news conference with Hannah’s father at the head office of the sheriff, which served as a command post during a massive six-day search that lasted much of the western United States and in Canada and Mexico.
Gore said DiMaggio fired his gun once or twice with Hannah nearby during Saturday’s showdown, and is believed to have fired the first shot. He declined to say how many times DiMaggio was shot or details of the rescue. He also refused to discuss how 44 years, 8 years and Christina Anderson, Ethan Anderson dead, describe the captivity of Hannah or say if she tried to escape.
The sheriff said the crime was “not spur of the moment” but did not elaborate. Captain Duncan Fraser sheriff said last week that investigators believe DiMaggio may have been an “unusual excitement” with the girl.
DiMaggio was like an uncle to the children, driving to gymnastics meets Hannah and Ethan to the football. It was close to their parents for nearly two decades.
The search for Hannah Anderson probably would have taken longer if a sheriff’s keen eye retirement and three jumpers in the hilly hinterland had not seen the pair on Wednesday. Gore called the “key event” in the search.
John Mark, who retired as Gem County Sheriff in 1996, expressed his suspicions to the police state of Idaho after meeting DiMaggio and daughter on the track. That allowed investigators to focus on a specific part of the Frank Church River of No Return Wilderness, a 3,600-square-mile roadless preserve the heart of Idaho.
Initially, it was the lack of openness on the track and a reluctance to engage in the exchange of polite banter that made John think something was wrong. They also puzzled why Anderson and DiMaggio were walking in the opposite direction of their destination indicated, the Salmon River.
But more than anything, it was their equipment – or lack thereof. Neither was wearing hiking boots or rain gear. DiMaggio, described as an avid hiker in his home state of California, was toting only a small bag. He even appeared Anderson wore pajama bottoms.
Brett Anderson thanked Johns during a press conference Monday.
“My family and I are eternally grateful,” he said.
On Friday, police found the car DiMaggio, hidden under brush to a path on the boundary of the wilderness area. A day later, the researchers spotted the pair by air, and two teams of FBI hostage moved into the camp at Lake Morehead, inside the border of desert and 40 miles is about 8 miles City central Idaho Cascade.
Rescue teams were dropped by helicopter about 2 1/2 hours away from where Anderson and DiMaggio were spotted by the lake, said FBI spokesman Jason Pack. The team had to walk up to 100 pounds with tactical equipment along a rough path characterized by steep and treacherous shoe laces before the shooting that killed DiMaggio and released his captive teen.
