KARACHI: Arrested Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) worker Fahad Aziz has been released on bail here on Sunday.
According to media reports, Fahad Aziz, who was charged under Section-54 over suspicion of being involved in attacking on policemen, has been released on personal bond.
He had been shifted to a private hospital in critical condition after police allegedly tortured him during custody. He was swooped up by police from his wedding procession last night.
The 31-year groom, Fahad Aziz, was on his way back home along with family, relatives and bride when plain-clothed police personnel arrested him. Officials said he was detained over charges of four policemen’s murder besides other heinous crimes.
Following the arrest, Fahad’s relatives accompanied by MQM leaders reached Karachi Press Club and protested against the arrest. The party leadership has called for release of the worker associated with MQM’s Korangi Sector.
Reports said Fahad was rushed to Darul Sehat hospital on Sunday and moved to intense care unit in critical condition. Sources said he was tortured by some cops during the police custody. Doctors said the accused bore torture signs on face and back.
Meanwhile, four police personnel, including an investigation officer, were suspended by higher authorities over the alleged torture.
The latest case of arrest irked MQM founder Altaf Hussain who blamed police and Rangers for extra-judicial murders of his party members in Karachi where the law-enforcers have been conducting an operation against criminal elements over the past few months. (Online)
