If you get the VIN you can check this at the Vic Roads site and see if it's still registered. - that is of course of the car is still in Victoria.
You maybe able to do a search of the PPSR register and see if the VIN still exists on the system.
If the car was imported from the U.K. it may already have succumbed from rust 
The car was ordered here in Melbourne but picked up and the factory in Germany. He drove it around for a few weeks then the car was imported back to Australian by lanes.
The rego was a personalized number plate, I checked VIc Roads site and the plate is no longer registered.
