Chemung County Treasurer Joseph E. Sartori has announced that Chemung County will hold a real property tax foreclosure auction of approximately 100 properties on Wednesday, March 30 at the Holiday Inn Riverview, located at 760 East Water St. in Elmira, N.Y.
This year’s auction will be conducted by the NYSAuctions.com Team of Absolute Auctions & Realty, Inc. and Haroff Auction & Realty, Inc., of Pleasant Valley, N.Y.
All of the auction information, including the entire list of properties and the auction brochure, is available on the company’s website, www.NYSAuctions.com. The website is continually updated and provides detailed information on each property. A printed auction brochure is available by visiting any Town or Village Hall within Chemung County, the Chemung County Real Property Office or Treasurer’s Office located in the City of Elmira, and by calling 1-800-243-0061.
Buyers are urged to listen to a free bidder’s seminar online now, or attend a live seminar at 7 p.m. on Monday, March 28 at the Holiday Inn, with early bidder registration beginning at 6 p.m. This informative seminar is presented by company representatives and is particularly useful for those attending the county auction for the first time. There is a review of the auction’s “Terms and Conditions” and useful tips are provided to help make the bidder a more informed buyer. The seminar is a great opportunity to learn and ask questions about the entire auction process.
Several properties in the auction will be available to view on Monday, March 28 and Tuesday, March 29 according to a showing schedule which will be posted to the company’s website on the weekend of March 25.
Auction registration will be available prior to the bidder’s seminar and on the morning of the auction beginning at 9 a.m. Prospective bidders must register by signing the “Terms and Conditions of the Auction,” produce a photo ID such as a driver’s license or passport and provide their social security number — corporate entities must provide their EIN, a State filing receipt copy proving incorporation and a resolution authorizing the attendee to bid — before obtaining a bidding number. The deed will only be issued to the name that is on the registration, and ownership of the property is not conveyed until the deed is recorded by the Chemung County Clerk.
Successful bidders will be required to place a deposit of $1,000 or 20 percent of the total contract price (whichever is higher) immediately at the auction. The deposit must be paid by credit card (Master Card, or VISA only), cash, bank teller’s/ cashier’s check or money order. The bank teller’s/ cashier’s check or money order used for deposit must be made payable directly to Chemung County Treasurer with no further endorsement. Business checks and personal checks will not be accepted. All properties are sold “as is” and officials suggest prospective bidders complete their research prior to bidding at the auction.
