Food Trip: 5 Hottest Brunch Spots in Cebu
5 Hottest Brunch Spots in Cebu
If you follow my food adventures, you probably know by now that I’m a sucker for breakfast food. In fact, each time I visit a destination, you can easily find me in a local breakfast joint enjoying breakfast favorites any time of the day.
I recently visited Cebu for four days without a concrete plan on what to do, where to go or even where to eat. Since I’ve been to Cebu numerous times already and I’m already familiar with its famous tourist spots so I just decided to just explore the local food scene and discover some of the hottest brunch spots in Cebu.
Cebu is the Philippines’ most progressive city outside Metro Manila. With its plethora of restaurants, foodies of various food preferences will definitely not run out of choices. From classic coffee chains to fine dining spots, I asked my local and online friends for some recommendation and here are my new five hottest brunch spots in Cebu:
Recommended Brunch Spots in Cebu
Abaca Baking Company
Address: Ground Floor, Robinsons Cybergate, Capitol Site, Cebu City
Telephone: (032) 262 0969
Website: http://www.theabacagroup.com/abaca-baking-company
What to eat? Try their freshly baked bagels and pair it with cream cheese and pair it with a cup of your favorite coffee.
The main branch is located at Crossroads Mall in Banilad while there’s also a smaller branch in Robinsons Cybergate near Fuente Osmeña. I visited the smaller one since it’s quite near my hotel.
This coffee shop and bakery offers a variety of sandwiches, burgers, muffins, bagels and other baked goodies. The coffee shop might be small but I find it very artsy with a superb ambiance and a good crowd, too. It’s definitely a reliable brunch place in Cebu.
10 Dove Street
Address: Oakridge Business Park, 880, A.S. Fortuna Street, Mandaue City
Phone: (032) 418 1010
What to eat? Try their Tocino Breakfast with slices of bread and two sunny-side-up eggs.
From the moment I entered the restaurant, I immediately liked the place. The English theme decor and ambiance of the place made it so cozy and homey at the same time. Although they have a wide array of food choices like sandwiches, salad, specialty dishes and cakes, what immediately attracted me was their breakfast menu. It’s a fine dining restaurant but the food prices are surprisingly not that expensive. Definitely one of the must-try brunch places in Cebu.
Tom N Toms Coffee
Address: The Greenery, Juan Luna Avenue, Kasambagan, Cebu City
Telephone: (032) 888 9418
Open 24 Hours
What to eat? Try their Italiano Pretzel and pair it with hot Macha
Tom N Toms Coffee is a coffeehouse chain from South Korea. When I heard that they finally opened their second Philippine branch in Cebu (first is in Bacolod), I promised myself that I’ll visit the place when I’m back in the island. I finally did!
There are a lot of coffee choices to try out and various pretzel flavors, too. Tom N Toms has over 130 food and beverage items to choose from. These include freshly-baked pretzels, pastries, breads, and tortilla pizzas, and coffee drinks that range from the regular fare like cappuccino and latte to originals like TomNccino ice-blended drinks. I will definitely come back to try out their other food offerings.
La Vie Parisienne Cebu
Address: 371 Gorordo Ave, Cebu City
Phone: (032) 260 4388
What to eat? If you want something light, try their pain au chocolat and pair it with a cup of Cafe Americano.
The restaurant was undergoing renovation when I recently visited the place but, despite of the noise and lack of table to dine, I still find the place interesting.
Upon entering the resto, you will be greeted by a long table full of freshly baked croissants, muffins, cookies and other French breads. Since there were not tables available due to the ongoing construction, I had to eat in a narrow table inside their wine cellar. It was a nice experience and although it was a bit hot, I felt like I was transported to Europe. The muffins and breads I ordered taste really good and the scent of freshly-brewed coffee made it even better.
Yolk Coffee and Breakfast
Address: Tan Kim Building, 80 Tres Borces Padres St, Cebu City
Website: http://yolkcafeph.com/
What to Eat? Try their Pumba Rice, the humba-inspired pulled pork served with steamed rice, poached egg and fresh tomatoes.
What I love about this place was its concept, simplicity, creativity and the story behind the resto. The resto was owned by a group of friends who also happened to be breakfast lovers. The interior of the restaurant has no fancy decorations and it goes to show that, you don’t need to put overwhelming decorations to provide a cozy and relaxing ambiance.
Yolk is also perfect for those who are trying to steer clear from busy and crowded cafes. Not only is its atmosphere a cozy one, its actual location is also rather secluded. It isn’t inside or near the malls so you can enjoy some peace and quiet here while you enjoy your favorite breakfast meals.
Where I Stayed in Cebu
My recent visit in Cebu was really unplanned. In fact I bought my ticket and booked my hotel exactly the day before I left Manila. I found a room at Crown Regency Hotel and Towers Cebu via AirBNB. With its good and safe location, I did not even have second thoughts about booking it.
The room is clean, huge and complete with amenities just like other 3-4 star hotels in the city. What I love most is its proximity to tourist spots, malls, groceries and famous food spots. And because I’m a SMART subscriber, I got my AirBNB room discounted. Yay!!
Good thing I learned that Smart and AirBNB has an ongoing promo for its subscribers.
Following the instructions given online, I was able to book my hotel in Cebu via AirBNB and was able to redeem P1,200 discount on my total hotel bill. To be eligible for the discount, your hotel bill should amount to a minimum of P4500!
