After several years since her last full album, Kylie Minogue (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram) is back! Coming out with her first album in 1988, Kiss Me Once is her twelfth release. Citing Katy Perry, Destiny’s Child, and Lady Gaga as few of her many influences, you can definitely hear her inspiration and her own originality in this album.
In recent months, pop music has continued to top the charts, and this album is another powerhouse in the genre. With an old-school Madonna type sound meeting new techno like beats, the songs on this album are truly ones that will get you up on your feet and dancing to the pulse. “Into the Blue” and “Million Miles” are the perfect songs to begin the album, as they set the mood for the rest of the songs and get you hyped up and excited with their background bass. One speaks of the start of feeling free, while the other talks of the longing for the touches of love and its effects. “I Was Gonna Cancel” brings out the sexy and flirtatious aspect of this album, and the addition of “Sexy Love” afterwards adds the playfulness and keeps the momentum going.
“Sexercize” slows the pace down, with a sultry, devilish sound blasting through your speakers. “Feels So Good” continues the electro-pop music, and “If Only” works to then pick the pace back up and have you back and jumping up and down dancing on your feet. “Les Sex” brings out that 90s pop influence in the beat with the perfect skips between a quick and slow pace. “Kiss Me Once” and “Beautiful,” which she recorded with Enrique Iglesias, slow down the album one more time and provide beautiful, love songs to the ensemble. “Fine” is the perfect finale, as it picks the tempo up one last time and closes the album with the same feeling it provides through each song: upbeat, fun, and sexy. Minogue does a great job in organizing each song to ensure the spectrum of feelings that should reach every listener.
Minogue’s newest release continues to display her achievements and talents as a decorated singer and songwriter. This album will surely be on repeat to jump start any day and keep it moving on the right foot.
