Autumn is here! With autumn comes colder, blustery, and sometimes rainy days that may make you want to stay indoors to enjoy your day. One way you can pass a not so friendly fall day at home is to escape with a book! DK Canada and Idiot’s Guides are a perfect way to stay at home and relax while the weather is not as friendly.

I am a huge fan of the variety of books that DK Canada has to offer. It seems as though they cover every the sun. I got to choose from so many books to review from DK Canada’s Food & Drink Boutique. Since I want to travel and I love food, I thought that I would combine both subjects together. I chose to review Ultimate Food Journeys: The World’s Best Dishes &Where to Eat Them to review. I have to tell you: This has to be one of my absolute favourite books I have ever read from DK Canada! From cover to cover, it is a gorgeous trip around the world with some of the best dishes you have either eaten or have ever wanted to taste. I was just expecting to see picturesque locales and some of the foods that represent these places, but there was so much more! I’ll explain with my favourite dish: Fish and Chips.

Here are the pages in this book where they feature the best place to get Fish and Chips. Not only do they show the restaurant where you can order the best plate of this fabulous dish, but it also shows how to get to the town this meal is made, places of interest within this town, and other great places, both in town and abroad, to try this tasty dish. It is like having a having a travel agent and a serious foodie with you, helping you plan your next trip to seek out your favourite dish!

Another section I loved in this book was their Food Festivals Around the World section. I this section, they list popular food festivals celebrated all over the world listed by the month each of these festivals take place and the continent the festival is in. They have the famous festivals such as Oktoberfest in Germany and La Tomatina in Spain, but this book also lists festivals I have not heard of but would love to attend such as the Blues, Brews and BBQs Festival in New Zealand, the V&A Waterfront Wine Affair in South Africa and Setsubun in Japan.

I also got to review a book from another boutique that highlights a new publisher that DK Canada has acquired. It is the Idiot’s Guide series, and they have a huge range of books for people who are looking to start learning a new hobby or discipline. The great aspect about the Idiot’s Guides is that they have started publishing in full colour, and these pictures look amazing! I have been looking to start learning yoga, and I thought that reviewing Idiot’s Guide: Yoga would be a great opportunity to learn how to do yoga from the comfort of my home.

I loved how the first sections of this book because it does not just jump right into learning yoga poses. I was told how to use this book to become better at yoga. I was also shown some of the tools that would make some of my poses more effective.

There is also a section that teaches the difference ways of breathing through different yoga poses that I thought was very interesting and useful.

Finally, there are quotes within each section of this book that help to inspire you to do be more in the moment of yoga. This one was one of my favourites.

Since I am a newbie at yoga, I started off doing the lower level poses. Even though I do love a challenge, I did not want to go beyond my level of expertise. These poses were great to do, and they helped to start to relieve the stress of a busy day of hand-on kids, writing and maintaining my home. The steps were also easy to follow.  I really needed to find something productive for my “Me Time.” Idiot’s Guide’s: Yoga got me on the path to doing something for me that helps to relax my mind and body for a part of my day, especially since the kids and I are getting a bit squirrely being inside more often now than we were during the summer.

So, if you are looking for a way to get away for a while without leaving the comfort creatures of home this autumn, then turn to DK Canada’s Food & Drink and Idiot’sGuide boutiques for some amazing books!
