NEC Corporation (OTCMKTS:NIPNF), IT and network technologies company, today announced to have doubled its mobile network capacity with new high capacity, high speed “NEC microwave backhaul links” to connect and support increasing mobile broadband usage in six key island and rural locations in Tanzania. This capacity expansion on behalf of Tanzania Telecommunications Co. Ltd. will greatly aid sustainable development in the country. This deal worth $1.6 million will significantly meet the rising demand from local citizens and enterprises as well as from tourists.
To facilitate this expansion, the government has already inaugurated the route from the country’s economic heart, Dar es Salaam to the island of Zanzibar. Moreover, government will shortly open other planned routes to further connections from Mikumi to Kidatu in south and Shinyanga to Maswa in the north of Tanzania.
Tanzania Telecommunications is using NEC Corporation (OTCMKTS:NIPNF)’s telecommunication solutions which enable it to continue to leverage investments in existing communication systems for voice traffic while using high capacity, high speed Ethernet for data. Moreover, the system allows the company to transition to an all IP network long-haul transmissions in the future. Moreover, NEC’s solution can also support, whenever required, the expansion of LTE network with minimum capacity upgrades. The system features consistently high quality of service because of performance monitoring using Ethernet OAM and system resilience using fault isolation and troubleshooting.
Tanzanian Minister of communication, science and technology, Makame Mbarawa mentioned that as the Tanzanian government is committed to deliver Vision 2025 program, the mobile infrastructure upgrade and use of latest communication technologies form key part of their program for sustainable development. Mbarawa expressed to further this long standing partnership with NEC to support the local telecommunication needs.
Managing Director of NEC Corporation (OTCMKTS:NIPNF), Eugene Le Roux mentioned that the system upgrade will aid a noticeable difference in the mobile network capacity. Roux mentioned that NEC has been offering its services to Tanzania Telecommunications for more than four decades.
