Congressman Ron DeSantis (R-Daytona Beach) in Downtown Deland this morning meeting with voters. The first of four stops throughout Florida’s 6th Congressional District, to listen to the concerns of his constituents before Congress goes back to work later this month.

DeSantis, who was reelected to a 2nd term this past November was greeted with a positive reception in the Deland City Council Chambers, but voters had major concerns about national security, the affordable care act or “Obamacare”, and issues that effected care of Veterans in the area.

Much of the criticism was directed at White House. DeSantis slammed government policies that protected under achieving federal employees, “You can be completely incompetent and you still won’t get fired” he said. And he stuck with most of the stances that have made him a Conservative favorite in the national media. He was critical of the Obama administration’s foreign policy, to include the exchange of American Prisoners for foreign spies and government spending which he compared to throwing tax dollars into a black hole.

The QA lasted for over an hour, with other stops on the tour including New Symrna Beach, Ponte Vedra, and Palm Coast.

OPO spoke with the Congressman after the event and asked him about his listening tour and what the House of Representatives needs to do to become more effective effective 2015…

“This turnout shows that Americans are anxious, they want to see changes in Washington and I’m going to take the energy from those very passionate constituents and take it up to D.C on Tuesday” he continues “We need to be true to what we told the American people we would do. Think about what you ran on. For me that is constitutionally limited government, individual freedoms, upward mobility for those that want to live the American Dream, and defending the country and securing our borders.”
