I read a lot about gluten free diet and how it can help with energy levels and mood.
Does anyone has an experience to tell me: how long do I need to stay on it to give this diet a fair chance?

If you aren’t gluten-intolerant, don’t have celiac disease, and don’t have small-intestine damage, you can expect to begin feeling better within two weeks.
If you have any of the above, give it at least a month.
I was diagnosed with celiac disease October 3, and it took two months for my gastrointestinal pain to diminish.
Be aware that “gluten” means wheat, barley, and rye. It can also mean foods that have come into contact with gluten, such as gluten-free food processed on equipment that also processes foods with gluten.
The FDA (in the United States) requires that food manufacturers indicate if their product contains wheat. It is NOT required to list barley and rye, so read food labels carefully.
