During this week’s Port of Toledo meeting the port board of commissioners unanimously approved for port manager Bud Shoemake to apply for a Connect Oregon grant in the amount of just over $4.4 million. Funds would be used to expand the boat yard and replace the floating dry dock. This would enable installation of a couple of long skinny piers that they could run a 300-ton travel lift out on.

Shoemake said this is a very important project that will help the boaters of Lincoln County. He said right now they don’t have the capacity to get work done on the larger distant water fleet and the work is being sent out of state. If approved this would enable lifting up to 9-boats, making it the largest capacity in Oregon. This would also support the wave energy project for NNMREC.

Applications for the ConnectOregon multimodal transportation funding program are due by 4 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 25 to the Oregon Department of Transportation. The 2013 Oregon Legislature approved $42 million in lottery-backed bonds for the fifth round of ConnectOregon funding. ConnectOregon 5 will continue to improve transportation connectivity and support Oregon’s economy.

ConnectOregon 5 funds will be distributed to air, marine, rail, transit and bicycle/pedestrian projects statewide; funds cannot be used for highway projects. ConnectOregon includes both grants and loans for private sector applicants, municipalities, cities, counties, governing organizations, and other transportation-related entities.
