After public input, Newport City Council voted last night to pass resolutions that will see a 5% tax on prepared food and beverages and a $.05 per gallon gas tax in Newport on an upcoming ballot. Voters will decide if the city’s attempt to have visitors help local residents fund needed additional police and fire positions and infrastructure and facility maintenance.
