The Brewers Association (BA), announced the results of the 2014 World Beer Cup Awards(WBC). The awards were presented at the conclusion of Craft Brewers Conference & BrewExpo America® in Denver, Colorado on Friday, April 11th, 2014.  The Craft Brewers Conference & Brew Expo America® will be held in Portland, Oregon, April 14-17, 2015.

Drawing the highest number of entries to date, the 2014 edition of the WBC saw 4,754 beers from 1,403 breweries representing 58 countries—a 21 percent increase in the number of entries from the 2012 WBC, which had 3,921 entries.  Brewers from five continents earned awards from an international panel of judges at this tenth biennial competition, with brewers from 22 countries being honored. Judges awarded 281 medals across 94 beer style categories.

This year Oregon’s breweries were awarded 17 medals by 14 Oregon brewing companies, which placed Oregon third amongst U.S. brewers in the number of medals won.  The World Beer Cup Champion Brewery and Brewmaster Award in the Small Brewing Company Category was awarded to Darron Welch & Steve Panos of the Pelican Pub & Brewery in Pacific City, Oregon, which is the third time they have won a World Beer Cup Champion Brewery and Brewmaster Award.

Items of Note for 2014:

Oregon won 9 Gold medals which tied for first in the U.S. in the WBC

Oregon had 4 of the 26 Brewing Companies that won 2 medals

Oregon had 3 of the same beers and six of the same breweries that won medals at the 2012 WBC

Both the originators of style in the US and Oregon won Gold medals for Hefeweizen(American-Style Wheat Beer With Yeast) and Cascadian Dark Ale(American-Style Black Ale)

The American-Style IPA category was the largest with 224 entries and an Oregon brewery won the bronze medal in that category
