To Donald Trump, the worst thing that has ever happened (forget that whole Lincoln assassination thing) in a theater occurred last night when vice-president elect Mike Pence was booed by a theater audience during the curtain call of the hit hip-hop musical Hamilton in New York. The cast of Hamilton paused to deliver a message to Pence about protecting all Americans. Cast member Brandon Dixon, who plays vice-president Aaron Burr, stepped forward and said, “Vice-president Mike Pence, I see you walking out, but I hope you will hear us, just a few moments.”

Boos commenced from the audience, but Dixon said, “There is nothing to boo here, ladies and gentlemen, we are sharing a story of love.”

“Mike Pence, we welcome you here. We are the diverse Americans who are alarmed and anxious that your new administration will not protect us, our planet, our children, our parents,” he continued.

“Or defend us and uphold our inalienable rights … we hope that this show has inspired you to uphold our American values and work on behalf of all of us,” he continued to say as the audience cheered.

“We thank you for sharing this wonderful American story, told by a diverse group of men and women of different colors, creeds and orientations,” he added.

That message of love was too much for Trump to handle.

Trump called it harassment.

Our wonderful future V.P. Mike Pence was harassed last night at the theater by the cast of Hamilton, cameras blazing. This should not happen!

Donald demanded an apology from the cast and thinks that theaters should be a safe place. Stop laughing. He really did write that on Twitter.

“The Theater must always be a safe and special place. The cast of Hamilton was very rude last night to a very good man, Mike Pence. Apologize!,” our next president wrote.

Twitter users noted the irony.

Perhaps the Hamilton cast should have been allowed to bar Pence from the theatre. You know, because of their religious beliefs. https://t.co/bqsNonQT7M

Trump wrote multiple tweets about Mike Pence being sad at Hamilton, but could only muster “stop it” to his supporters doing hate crimes.

“Grow up.”

@realDonaldTrump They read a respectful prepared statement. Grow up.

A message of love and diversity blew Trump’s mind and he wants an apology. Trump, however, owes this country more than an apology for the pain and suffering he’s already inflicting on our beautifully diverse nation.

How dare a cast member call a bigot a bigot. Find your safe place, Donald. This isn’t over.
