This award-winning 26,000-square-foot building opened in 2009 and was designed by Helmut Jahn. The building converts electricity into chilled water for cooling university buildings on the south and east quadrants of the campus. Its unique design incorporates large machinery with brightly colored pipes, ducts and equipment behind a curtain wall of clear glass. The facade changes with sheets of perforated stainless steel held in front of pre-cast concrete planks at the building’s air intake and exhaust areas.
