For those working (or just generally interested) in fashion, New York Fashion Week is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to watching the runways for Spring/Summer 2014 (yes, 2014. You read that right). As bloggers, editors and It Girls hop around the globe from New York to London to Milan to Paris to watch designers show off their summery collections, we’ll be living vicariously through our Instagram and Twitter feeds. To make up for watching the runways through small screens instead of IRL (read: in real life), we’ve broken down five of our favourite spring collections that have captured our attention.

Proenza Schouler

When it comes to designers Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, creating an A+ collection is nothing new. Season after season, Proenza Schouler hits it out of the figurative fashion park and its SS14 collection was no exception. From the striking black and white print on skirt suits to the ankle-length coats with a plunging neckline, Proenza showed exactly why its at the top of the fashion game. The collection hit an absolute high note with the metallic foil gowns with peek-a-boo cutouts on the stomach. We can see some of the more fashion forward celebrities sporting these dresses when red carpet season rolls around. Mark our words.

3.1 Phillip Lim

After seeing Phillip Lim’s spring/summer collection, his collaboration with Target is the farthest thing from our minds. All we’re thinking about is how to get our paws on his newest collection (without going completely broke). His skilfully placed organza gave the fashion sweatshirt an entire new life by making it more scandalous than comfortable and the oversized leather stitching (much like the stitching on a baseball) connecting seams was the ultimate detail to give the pieces an ultra-luxurious feeling. And for all the ladies who don’t like to wash their hair all the time, Lim made greasy hair look chic. Rejoice!

Tommy Hilfiger

Tommy Hilfiger went above and beyond when it came to his set. Trucking in sand to create a beach scene (complete with a boardwalk) his collection was an ode to the California cool girl. If you thought neoprene and rash guards were only for the beach, you thought wrong. Tommy proved that beachwear can transcend the shoreline and we’re sure we’ll spot neoprene tops and skirts all over come spring. And believe us when we say we’ll be swooping up that oversized jersey dress as soon as it hits the racks.

Marc Jacobs

It’s always good to expect the unexpected when it comes to Marc Jacobs’ namesake collection. Last fall, he brought out a topless model and for spring, he showed what felt like a fall collection. Oversized and boxy coats adorned with tassels were the stars of the collection, making band geeks everywhere jump for joy (we can only assume) and as soon as we spotted dark floral embroidered gown, we gave into loving the quirky spring collection. We are well aware this show was not for everyone but we know that the fashion elite will be all over it. Plus the inspiration for the collection was a frat party, so there’s that.

Alexander Wang

Ladies, start your crunches now because Alexander Wang has made the crop top the must-have for spring 2014. This is no joke. There’s a reason Alexander Wang has a cult-like following of It Girls and his collection just solidified his place as the King of New York cool. His collection was heavy on the ’90s references with babydoll dresses and crop tops as well as Parental Advisory graphics which remind us of the days when we bought CDs. There were details a plenty throughout the show but it never felt like it was too much and that’s why we love Alexander Wang so gosh darn much.

Is it spring yet?!
