Can anyone break the domination of Australia’s top quartet of women’s senior amateurs?
Entries are now open for the Australian Women’s Senior Amateur at Perth’s Gosnells Golf Club from October 26-30.
But only twice since 2000 – and not since 2006 – has anyone other than Robyn Puckett, Sylvia Donohoe, Jacqui Morgan and Josie Ryan won the event.
And they’re all likely starters again this year, putting the heat on the next wave to stand up.
Defending champion Puckett, from Queensland, will aim to win her third title, while seven-time champion Donohoe, from NSW, will hope to add another after finishing runner-up last year.
Morgan, from New South Wales and the No.1 ranked player on the Australian Women’s Senior Amateur Rankings, will again be among the favourites, while Queenslander Ryan wants to add her 2003 and 2013 titles.
The championship will be played over 36 holes qualifying, followed by elimination match play.
The leading 16 players will qualify for the major championship, in addition to the top eight players in four age divisions qualifying for their own age match play flights.
To keep things interesting, there will also be a handicap competition in conjunction with the first two rounds of qualifying, as well as a state teams event to enhance the interstate rivalry.
Off the course, players will be able to renew friendships at the cocktail reception on Tuesday evening and conclude with the presentation reception on Friday afternoon, all included in the entry fee.
And again, any player who introduces a friend to the championship for the first time will go into the draw to win a prize for a $ 200 voucher to spend at the Gosnells Golf Club pro shop.
