Welcome back to another week of the Love to Learn Linky.  There were so many fun Valentine’s SENSORY activities that linked up last week so I decided to round them all up and categorize them under the 5 senses!

Why 5 Senses?

Kids learn and explore in different ways.  Some kids love sensory activities where they get messy and get to touch and feel different textures, while others can’t stand those same activities.

Some kids learn better through a particular sense than others too – just like adults. By gathering activities for all 5 senses, we’ve got something sensory that will appeal to all kids!

Valentine’s Touch Activities

Valentine’s Sensory Discovery Bin – One Time Through

To make this Valentine’s Rice Sensory Bin, you will need to colour some rice red by spraying it liberally with vinegar and then mixing in some red food colouring.  I added buckets and a cup to pour with, as well as heart cookie cutters, glass beads, pom poms and feathers.

Onetime, my 3 year old son, had a blast pouring and dumping with this bin last year, as well as hiding and finding the little objects!

Valentine’s Smell Activities

Rose Scented Playdough – One Time Through

To make this luxuriously scented playdough, use our favourite homemade dough recipe which you can find and print from our Free Printables page, and simply add a few drops of NOW Foods, Rose Absolute, 5% oil blend, 1 Ouncewhile the dough is still warm. You can make the playdough red or pink – Onetime chose pink this time.

Easy Heart Printing Valentines – One Time Through

Can’t get easier than this to make adorable heart printed artwork. Form a paper roll into a heart shape, then show your child how to dab it into paint.  Try different colours of paint and paper.  Display your child’s masterpiece, or cut it up (with their permission of course!) and make some very special valentines!

Pick up some of those Mini HeartShaped Containers (2 dz)and fill them with Valentine’s related objects (or not) that make noise when you shake the boxes.  Create matching pairs of heart sounds and see if your child can identify pairs. Note: if you’re going to use rice like we did – tape the boxes shut!

Love to Learn Linky

Bloggers, share your posts every Thursday and watch as we round them up and share them all over the place. Almost anything goes, we’re just hoping your activities teach kids (or us!) something (science, art, cooking, behavior, crafting, parenting etc…).

The Love to Learn Linky is hosted by:

Left Brain Craft Brain (leftbraincraftbrain.com): Anne is an ex-engineer, current stay-at-home mama writing about crafty ways to encourage creativity (and brain power!) in our kids. Each of her projects gives kids the chance to learn about a new subject and do something crafty at the same time.

Totschooling (totschooling.net): Viviana is a blogging mom to a toddler and a preschooler, sharing ideas and resources for early education. She specializes in unique, hands-on printable activities that are educational, fun and inspire creativity in young minds.

A Little Pinch of Perfect (alittlepinchofperfect.com): Katie combines creativity, play, and learning for the perfect mishmash of fun activities that keep kiddos entertained throughout the day. She wholeheartedly believes in the power of play and feels that all activities naturally provide a fun way to learn.

One Time Through (onetimethrough.com): Sue is an Elementary School Teacher currently on leave to be at home with her preschooler son. She shares ideas for connecting and learning with kids through meaningful, play-based activities that nurture curiosity and creativity, as well as positive parenting tips.
