Ben, have you ever transferred Hyatt points before? Is there a fee? And could this be a way to get a Diamond member to book a room for someone else using that person’s points?
While airlines almost all charge to transfer points between accounts, hotels tend to be more generous. I’ve written in the past about how:
Starwood allows you to transfer points between members registered at the same address for free
Club Carlson allows you to transfer points between members registered at the same address for free, and elite members can transfer points to anyone

Hyatt Gold Passport actually allows you to combine points at no cost as well.
How to combine Hyatt points
In order to combine Hyatt points for free you have to fill out the Hyatt Gold Passport Point Combining Request Form.
It’s a fairly straightforward form whereby you just have to get account information and signatures from both members.
From there you can send the form to Hyatt in one of three ways:

The basic terms of combining points are as follows:
Members may only transfer or receive points once every 30 days
There’s no requirement that last names, addresses, etc., match — in theory any two members can combine points
Once the request to combine points has been received, the transaction should take place within a day or so
Technically you may combine points “in order to have a sufficient number of points to redeem for a particular award” and “only the number of Hyatt Gold Passport points necessary to redeem the specific award for which the transfer is being requested may be combined”
That being said, that doesn’t mean a whole lot since you don’t have to include reservation information, and in theory you could be considering spending a month at the Park Hyatt Sydney

The potential benefit of combining Hyatt points
As I explained yesterday, Hyatt started offering Guest Of Honor bookings over the weekend.
They describe this as follows:
Guest of Honor is here! Your new benefit lets you treat those you love most to an experience they won’t forget. Now when you redeem your points for a free night for your friends and family, they’ll receive the exclusive in-hotel perks of your Diamond membership, such as:
The best room available upon arrival, excluding suites
A special welcome amenity
Exclusive access to the Regency Club® or Grand Club® lounge, including complimentary breakfast
Call 800.400.2261 in the U.S. or Canada or your nearest global contact center to gift a free night stay through December 30, 2015. Rest assured, we’ll look after your Guest of Honor just like we look after you.
Let me give an example of how this could be useful. Say you’re a Diamond member and your parents have no status. Your parents could transfer their points to your account, and then you could redeem the points to make a Guest Of Honor reservation for them, so that they’d receive your Diamond benefits.

Bottom line
The ability to combine Hyatt Gold Passport points is more useful than ever thanks to the Guest Of Honor booking option. While the terms on the transfer are a bit confusing, in practice it’s usually quite straightforward.
