The project of Jo Cowen Architects for this old historical building located in Central London represents a series of former Victorian bakery buildings converted into 12 high-end dwellings that combine artistically contemporary design ideas with the thoughtful celebration of the building’s historical legacy.
Incorporating the original glazed brick walls, textures and memories from the buildings origin with a series of delicate steel and glass elements that divide rooms and functional custom made fittings that make them comfortable, the architects in collaboration with designers Amelia McNeil Interior Design and Studio 29 Lighting Design achieved a project that presents an example of high standard and unique charm at the contemporary design scene.
The interior decor of Bakery Place feature airy, open spaces, full of natural light. The architects had combined the existing charm of the old details: like the brick walls, the timber beams and the corbeled cast iron columns, with contemporary design standards. The lifted ceilings – which ensure good airflow and sufficient natural light, the handmade kitchen fittings with trendy copper trims and modernistic lighting solutions, a features that altogether make irresistible mixture of vintage charm and modern style.
We particularity enjoy the elegant, unostentatious way in which the fashionable features: like the metal, glass constructs and partitions or the comfortable furniture arrangement, entwine with the old, historical giving’s of the apartments.
