While we were in the Portland area last month we stopped by the Pendleton Woolen Mill Store.  It’s a great place to find wool fabrics and remnants for rug hooking–and you can find some pretty good deals on blankets and clothing.

The Pendleton Woolen Mill Store has a HUGE selection of fabric, remnants, mill ends, buttons, patterns–which all come from their two mills.  If you can’t stop by the actual store, they even have an Ebay store, created to fulfill international and national demands.

This was the second time I’ve been to the Pendleton Mill store {the first time being about 10 years ago}. The root of the mills began in 1863 when Thomas L. Kay immigrated from England and opened up a mill in Salem, OR.  His daughter, Kay Bishop, and her husband later took over the business.

They taught their sons the ins and outs and then the family moved to Pendleton to purchase a previously failed Pendleton Woolen Mills.  The rest is history–the company has been making wool ever since–and constantly expanding in the process.  The company is still privately owned by the Bishop family–which is pretty darn cool if you ask me.
