Recognition

David Goss, Mathematics, will have the upcoming June 22-25 conference Function Fields, Zeta Functions and Drinfeld Modular Forms at Imperial College in London held in his honor for his work in the field. The emeritus faculty member’s research has included contributions in the areas of Algebraic Number Theory, Function Fields, L-Series and the Carlitz and Drinfeld Modules.


Publication

Luc Lecavalier, Psychology and Psychiatry, is part of a team of scientists who published the largest behavioral treatment study ever done in the field of autism: “Effect of Parent Training vs. Parent Education on Behavioral Problems in Children with Autism, Spectrum Disorder: A Randomized Clinical Trial,” Journal of the American Medical Association (2015), Vol. 313, No. 15, pp. 1524-33.


Recognition

Rebecca Reczek, Marketing, was awarded the 2014 Early Career Award from the Society for Consumer Psychology, which honors her as one of the marketing field’s top young minds.

Lori Dalton, Electrical and Computer Engineering and Biomedical Informatics, received a five-year $449,341 NSF Faculty Early Career Development award for her research in optimal Bayesian methods for classification.

Victoria Muñoz, English, was awarded the Margaret Blickle Graduate Travel and Research Award and the Ohio State College of Arts and Humanities Small Research Grant and presented at the Shakespeare Association of America in Vancouver, Canada, April 2015.

Anastasios Sidiropoulos, Computer Science and Engineering and Mathematics, received a five-year, $500,921 NSF Faculty Early Career Development award for his project “Geometric Frontiers in Algorithm Design.”

Yuan Zheng, Electrical and Computer Engineering, received a $50,000 grant from the Ohio Third Frontier Technology Validation and Start-Up Fund to design several prototype gear-reducers — engine components that increase the rotation of a motor.

Hany Emam and Courtney Jatana, Dentistry, were recently certified as Diplomates by the American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery. The Diplomate designation certifies that Emam and Jatana have achieved the highest requirements of competence within their field.

Kyle Ezell, City and Regional Planning, received the 2015 Donald E. Hunter Award for Excellence in Economic Development Planning from the Economic Development Division of the American Planning Association for his project “The Essence of Athens: A Strategic Design Plan for Economic Enhancement and Community Competitiveness.”

Thomas Goldsby, Logistics, has been named to the Harry T. Mangurian Jr. Foundation Professorship in Business at Fisher College of Business.

Faith Haleem and Kisha Radliff, Educational Studies, were honored by the EHE Office of Diversity and Inclusion for their dedication to integrating social justice.

Michelle Kaiser, Social Work, was featured in Columbus Monthly for her food mapping research in the story, “Researchers Map City Residents’ Access to Food.”

Colleen Kennedy, English, was awarded the Shakespeare Association of America Graduate Student Travel Award and the Edward J. Ray Travel Award for Scholarship and Service to present at the Shakespeare Association of America in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

Bernadette Melnyk, Nursing, was named by The Mometrix Blog as one of the 30 Most Influential Deans of Nursing in the United States.

Harvey Miller, Geography, has been selected for the University Consortium for Geographic Information Science 2015 Research Award, which is given to the creator of a particularly outstanding research contribution to geographic information science.

John Rule, History, has been selected by the Society for French Historical Studies as the 2015 winner of the David Pinkney Prize for the best book on any aspect of French history published by a North American scholar for his work A World of Paper: Louis XIV, Colbert de Torcy, and the Rise of the Information State (Montreal and Kingston: McGill-Queen’s University Press, 2014). Rule, who received the award posthumously, joined the faculty in 1958, which he served until he retired as professor emeritus in 1995. The book was co-authored by Ben Trotter, who earned his bachelor’s, master’s and PhD in history at Ohio State.

Matthew Tidwell, English, has won the Ohio State Newark Teaching Excellence Award for Lecturers.

Elizabeth Weiser, English, is the 2015 recipient of the Ohio State Newark Scholarly Accomplishment Award.

Service

Pamela Bradigan, Health Sciences, has been elected to the board of directors of the Association of Academic Health Sciences Libraries (AAHSL). AAHSL is comprised of libraries serving the accredited U.S. and Canadian medical schools in the Association of American Medical Colleges. It supports academic health sciences libraries and directors in advancing the patient care, research, education and community service missions of academic health centers through leadership, expertise in health information, scholarly communication and knowledge management. As part of her role on the board, Bradigan will have direct liaison responsibilities with the Teaching and Learning Committee and provide general guidance to the organization on its strategic plan and future.

Danille Christensen, English, has accepted an appointment as assistant professor of public humanities in the Department of Religion and Culture at Virginia Tech, beginning August 2015.

Jackie Goodway, Kinesiology, is associate editor for the Association for Physical Education’s The Journal of Physical Education and Sport Pedagogy.

Eddie Singleton, English, was awarded the College of Arts and Sciences Outstanding Staff Award for his work directing the First Year Writing Program, developing an innovative curriculum and mentoring new graduate teaching associates.
