Admit it, we all love going to cinema. With a bucket of popcorn in hand, we gladly welcome the two-hour escape the big screen has to offer. Over the years, Hollywood has provided us with flick after flick after flick. Here are the top ten flicks we lapped up big-time to make Hollywood an even richer place.
10. Pirates of the Carribean: Dead Man’s Chest
Released in 2006 as the third installment to the Pirates of the Carribean franchise, this movie earned a killing in the box office with its $1.066 million ticket sales. Johnny Depp’s portrayal of Captain Jack Sparrow continues to entertain in this installment which led to another sequel, Pirates of the Carribean: On Stranger Tides.
9. The Dark Knight Rises
The final installment to Nolan’s Batman trilogy earned over $1.081 million worldwide and was named as the third top-grossing film of 2012. It features Christian Bale as Batman as he takes on a mercenary, Bane, whose mission is to destroy Gotham City.
8. Sky fall
Daniel Craig returned as the super spy James Bond in the 2012 addition to the 007 franchise. The film centered around Bond’s investigation of an attack on MI6.It earned a total of $1.109 million at the box office giving it the second spot in 2012′s list of top-grossing films. In the movie, Bond goes after a former MI6 operative who’s out to kill M, which leads him back to Sky fall, the home where his parents were killed.
7. The Lord of the Rings: Return of the King
The release of the last installment to J. R. R. Tolkien’s epic tale in 2003 earned a whopping $1.120 million. Peter Jackson takes us back to Middle-Earth as Saur on launches his final attack on Gondor. The film was hailed as the highest grossing film of 2003 and won all of its 11 Oscar nominations.
6. Transformers: Dark of the Moon
The 2011 sequel to the Transformers franchise earned $1.124 million at the box office. An alien technology on earth sparks another battle between the Auto bots and the Decepticons after its discovery in an abandoned plant in Chernobyl. The Decepticons plan to use the said technology to rebuild their home planet, Cybertron, by enslaving Earth.
5. Ironman 3
Robert Downey, Jr. returned to the big screen as philanthropist, millionaire, and playboy Tony Stark in the third installment to the Ironman franchise. Released in 2012, the movie earned $1.212 million at the box office. Ironman must face The Mandarin in order to save humanity from the latter’s threats of terrorism.
4. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows 2
The second half of the final Harry Potter book released in 2011 follows Harry Potter’s quest to destroy Lord Voldemort’s horcruxes. This eighth and last installment to the Harry Potter franchise earned $1.342 million at the box office and was reviewed as one of the best films of 2011.
3. The Avengers
The year 2012 brought us the first team-up of Marvel heroes Captain America, Thor, The Hulk and Ironman. Tasked with finding an Asgardian technology, the Tesseract, the team faces Loki and foils his plans of conquering Earth. The Avengers was the highest grossing film of 2012 with a total earning of $1.512 million at the box office.
2. Titanic
The story of how an unsinkable ship sank in its maiden voyage amazed the world in 1997 as it features fresh-faced Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet in their first movie team-up. With a total earning of $2.185 million, Titanic was dubbed as 1997′s top grossing film.

In 2009, blue people from another planet took our collective breath away, as well as $2.782 million in ticket sales. This modern classic from James Cameron is set in the mid-22nd century when humans mine a precious mineral from Pandora, a habitable moon in the Alpha Centauri system.
