A 25-year-old mother of one has died after undergoing a routine breast enlargement operation in Shenzhen, southern China. The woman referred to as Ting Ting died on Wednesday after her heartbeat dropped during surgery, the People's Daily Online reports.
Ting Huang, who was a fashion model, decided to undergo surgery after being told during her consultation that she had so-called 'small breast syndrome' and small eyes.
According to hospital reports, Ms. Huang had paid 45,000yuan ($6,900) for the deadly double eyelid and breast augmentation surgery scheduled later that day. But it wasn’t her first time.
Huang’s mother said the same doctor who performed Wednesday’s surgery had done a nasal-bridge augmentation procedure on her daughter. The surgeon, who has been identified as Dr. Xie, had selected general anesthesia for both the operations, but it is still unclear what might have gone wrong this time.
Following the incident, the hospital’s vice-director said the hospital would bear all responsibilities regarding the deadly episode of cosmetic surgery gone wrong. The vice-director said the local police and public health authority had visited the hospital to investigate.
The cause of death will be confirmed following post-mortem examinations.
