Wednesday April 22 at 7:00PM

This program covers the latest environmental topics that relate to residential landscaping, with emphasis on ways to promote the conservation of natural resources, including clean air, water, and biological diversity. This is an overview of current issues facing the southern New England Landscape and Long Island Sound, and how landscaping practices can make a significant difference toward a sustainable future.

Judy Preston is the part-time Connecticut Outreach Program Coordinator for the Long Island Sound Study (LISS) and a staff member at Connecticut Sea Grant. She is also a certified Master Gardener, Master Composter, and NOFA certified Organic Land Care practitioner. As an ecologist and passionate gardener, Judy has created Sound Gardening for Water Quality, a multi-tiered program that includes the Advanced Master Gardener Coastal Certificate Program, to provide alternatives for coastal and watershed gardeners to protect the waters of Long Island Sound. Judy is an adjunct instructor for the Sustainable Landscape Ecology certificate program at Three Rivers Community College. She holds degrees in geology (BA, Skidmore), botany (MS, University of Vermont) and environmental management (MEM, Yale School Forestry & Environmental Studies).

The Long Island Sound Study (LISS) is a two state, interagency partnership that works with numerous agencies and groups to restore and protect Long Island Sound. An estuary of national significance, LIS needs everyone’s help to ensure the long-term economic, recreational, and natural assets that it provides.
