Our client is currently recruiting for the position of Instrument & Controls Engineer, based in Tees Valley.

Job Description

Our Client is building two of the world's largest, advanced plasma gasification, Waste to Energy facilities in the Tee's Valley area. The facility represents significant new investment in the North East and will create over 120 staff positions and support from local business providing engineering, maintenance and services in the Tees Valley area.

As the Instrument & Controls Engineer will have prime responsibility for all aspects of Controls & Instrumentation at the facilities and you will provide technical support and expertise for the instrument and controls systems within the Tees valley Plants. You will need to ensure the continuous, safe and reliable operation of the instrumentation and control systems, using your knowledge to trouble shoot, resolve problems and the design and install systems.

Ensure the good and stable functioning of the instrument and controls system so that the plant operates in a continuous, safe and efficient manner.

Provide on-going improvements to the control systems in support of production, optimisation, safety and reliability.

Provide a design capability for plant improvement projects, including control strategies, configuration of control systems and instrument specifications.

Respond to any major occurrence of plant breakdown where control and instrumentation expertise is required.

Manage technical support service providers such as DCS, Safety and Gas Turbines.

Working in the pre-operational phase

The Instrumentation and Controls Engineer will work with the engineering, commissioning, and operations teams in support of bringing the plant into operation. Specific activities will include:

DCS system staging

Supporting the integration of the many PLCs into the overall control system.

Be an active member of the pre-commissioning and commissioning teams. This will include:

Control loop checking, function testing & plant tuning.

Safety Systems Validation.

Data Management systems

Data feed to all Financial monitoring software systems (Including communications)

Skills & Experience

Degree qualified with good level of site experience, responsible for all/many aspects of control systems, protection systems, instrumentation etc

Strong experience in a process engineering industry, such as Petrochemical, Oil & Gas, Energy/Power Generation or similar

Experience of DCS and safety protection systems and hands on knowledge of Emerson Delta V, both hardware & configuration/logic programming.

Good basic knowledge of industrial instrumentation.

Worked on plant optimization using advanced controls techniques like ASPEN DMC plus, Model predictive control (MPC) etc. Data management skills for historian data & manipulation e.g. Aspen IP21 (Info Plus), SQL database. Connectivity of different platforms.

Familiar with Emerson DCS & Safety protection systems, PLCs, Turbine controls systems, Emissions monitoring systems (CEMS), Process plant instrumentation of various types (e.g. pressure, temperature, flow, level, vibration measurement and transmission systems), Instrumented Shutdown systems, Analysers of various types and diagnostic tools.

This is a permanent position.

The salary for this position is negotiable.
