When there’s a big leak in the roof amidst a rain storm, Al Bundy refuses to call a roofer. He says that’s what’s wrong with America. If something’s broken or leaking you call someone. If “one of the kids suffers a ruptured appendix call someone.”
Al wants to inspire his children. He encourages Bud that maybe he could be a doctor or a lawyer. And Kelly…well she can button her own coat.
He then brings up Grandpa Bundy. He calls him a master of his own fate and a fixing man.
The family then rhetorically asks “you mean Grandpa Hook?”
Al defends him still saying that you didn’t see him calling someone. Peg points out it would be difficult for him to hold the phone since he only had one finger on his other hand after a mix-up with the nail gun.
The Polk High legend and shoe store extraordinaire points out “one finger is all a real American needs.”
